just as a side note: minecraft once used different "engines" for single and multiplayer, at some point, they changed that and made singleplayer use the same multiplayer code, even though there is no network activity
updating all the mods took ages, some mods where wern't even updated when minecraft released their next major update, some mods never did the jump, some mods had to be rewritten 90% and more, and not line for line, but partly multiple pages for what was a single line beforhand
rimworld would face the same problem, mods wouldn't update for month, if not a year or more. plus there is no garantue that mods would work on multiplayer at all. i think it is a good think they don't want to add MP
There are already a couple of multiplayer mods that support other mods, so why should it not be possible to add it to the base game?
is that a serious question?
https://ludeon.com/blog/work/
has there been any talk of rimworld is coming to mobile and console?
Considering the posting is still up on their web site and says "We are actively seeking someone for this role" I can only assume that they are actively seeking someone for that role. Ahem.
Now, it's entirely possible that they've been looking for someone for over a year and haven't found anyone that fits the bill, in which case, yes, that explains perfectly why there's no multiplayer in 1.3 and why there's no talk of it in future updates. You can't plan a game around a feature that you don't have a specialist to address.
right, a few, and more than enough that creates instability or not work at all, some work great, other are kinda wonky... others causes desync.
and the problem would be: even if you play singleplayer, the mods need to be multiplayer compatible, all the mods, not only a few... modded rimworld can have enough problems in itself, there is no need to introduce forced mutiplayercode into rimworld.
and as you said,m there are a couple of MP mods out there, just use those?
well, my point is that the listing you linked for a mulitplayer specialist specifically calls out mobile and console experience which seems odd. Maybe its for an unannounced project and not rimworld?
The fact that there is no update, or anything on this old blog post, is just more proof of how much of a dead end it is.
