The Guilty Meme
Why is the system made so that only people who feel "Guilty" can choose charity as an idea? It is very universal thing in religions to help those in need, even in some more brutal societies considered it a noble thing to help those who were weaker since they were below you, and you as their natural master had obligations toward them.

It is a weird interpretation of charity on my mind, to tie it to some odd feeling of guilt instead of strength, prestige and general flexing of wealth. It could easily tie into any and ALL memes. For example the game has charity opposed to supremacist which is distilled as "Our people should dominate all others." What would be more noble than help those who will eventually be out subjects, it only proves to the world those feeble minded people cannot even take care of themselves!

I know mods will fix it or people can just cheat with the dev mode to deal with it. It is odd to me still. Charity is not tied in my mind to feeling of guilt.

you are mistaken in one thing: that charity REQUIERES the guilt meme.
when creating your ideology, you can alkways click "add precept" and set charity to whatever you want

the guilty meme REQUIERES you to have a charity set, not the other way around

What Cormac said. I have Charity set as essential without the Guilty meme.

Oh, i think i failed to notice that since i have Supremacist game online, it was being blocked all the time. Hah, you can even run it with Raider.

Thank you. I stand corrected then, my complaint has been narrowed to why supremacists cannot do charity... if raiders and cannibals can get it.

I would hazard a guess because supremacists believe they are better than anyone else, and anyone needing charity is inherently inferior. Raiders, on the other hand, would see charity as an investment: helping out a group now will make them a fatter target later. The same thing with Cannibalism: helping a wandering group in need will hopefully mean that they'll be fatter later on down the road.

I agree that certain memes are far too restrictive. Some are far too forced in one direction or another. Guilt doesn't always make you kind to strangers.

the old vikings were raiders, did that mean they were unable of charity?
cannibals, while eating human meat, doesn't neccesary mean that they are hunting every other human just to eat human meat, right?

on the other hand, supremacist, a believe of beeing supperior to others while thinking they should rule over the 'lesser' ones might discurrage you of charity to be an "important" part of your society.

supremacist can be charitive... is that even a word?, but there is no reason why they should be requiered to be it.
thats what the precept means, it is requiered from its members to be charitive... not they are allowed/forbidden to be it

As others said, memes that mandate precepts will auto add it to the list. Some things, like no mining or no meat are optional if no mandating mean exists, meaning it can be added or removed by a right click or add button.

For example, when I was making my religion, it randomly selected the no mining. I removed it and added a different one instead. I didnt need to add it, but did so cause I wanted to add it.
