No. You have to settle it to explore a tile and find ore or things like ancient dangers. You can settle and then abandon, you don't have to treat it like a colony, just create a temporary camp, extract the resources, then move on. It blocks you from settling that map again in the future, but there's no real limit of explorable hexes this way.

The Set Up Camp mod allows you to create a random procedural "quest map" wherever you want, it doesn't use the map seed and you don't get all the resources, it's mostly just for gathering berries or doing some hunting during a caravan. You can turn on ore spawning in the options, last time I tried that it didn't work though, and AFAIK you can't enable ancient danger spawning which is a big reason to explore new tiles.

Not without a mod, I forget the name, or by making a caravan to visit the tile of another settlement (even if it's an ally, choose to attack it and then you will enter the zone - you can then just not attack and set up alongside them). If, at game generation, you increased the maximum number of colonies from the preset 1 to 2+, you can simply make a caravan to settle another tile and explore for a bit.

Then when you're done, have everyone leave that tile, select the settlement and choose to abandon it. Note that you will never be able to return to a tile that you settled and abandoned - pass over it with caravans sure, but not resettle it.

You can even without a mod. Not sure what ^ is talking about. Just form a caravan and go to the new cell and plop down some sleep areas and places for food and hang out while you take the resources, filling caravans back to main colony. If you decide to keep it just change the option to have more than one colony.

You can use Set Up Camp (which is in the thread Maeklos linked too), but you can also use Encounter Map Resources mod to be able to get resources from maps generated for encounters and quests and the like.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
