Can't prepare meal

I'm new to this game, but I learned the basics of preparing a meal. But for some reason I can't even make one on my non-tutorial world.

Things I've done to make a simple meal:
- set to 10x bill
- harvested rice
- set to a good cook
- has fuel on stove

I heard that it was a bug caused by a mod or something but idk.
My poor colonists are just eating raw rice now :c

Did you adjust anything else in the bill? Allowed ingredients, allow fresh/rotten, ingredient radius?

What does it say when you try to force the cook to cook? (by selecting him and then right clicking on the stove)

Assuming you are not running any mods, and haven't messed with any settings on the bill, it should provide you with at least a "simple meal". Check to make sure that; 1) You set the bill to "Simple Meal" and didn't mess with any settings, and 2) Make sure you have a colonist assigned to cooking and hauling. If this doesn't work, I can only guess you are running mods, and that's never a good idea if you are just starting for the first time, on any game.

I just allowed cooking for everything.
When I make the colonist cook on the stove it says: can't cook, need material

I've done pretty much everything with what you just said. Also I am using some mods, but maybe I shouldn't be using them now, which is unfortunate :c

Pro Tip, buddy. Never use mods when just starting on a new game. Mods are for fixing problems you've encounter though playing, or adding content that you wished was part of the game after playing it.

I've put almost 100 hours into this game, and while i suck at it (That AI can be a nightmare, and the game likes to not play by it's own rules), i've never been not able to cook a Simple Meal. As long as you have enough meat, or rice, or potatoes or whatever in a stockpile zone (Pro Tip; Build a Freezer for your food), you can make Simple Meals literally forever.

While, yes, best to hold off on mods until you know the game a bit better, I'm not convinced yet that this issue is mod related. It's quite common in this game to overlook a detail somewhere and then do the faceslap thing later.

Perhaps a screenshot of the cooking bill details might help.

if it's telling you that you need material then double check that. how much rice do you have? is it already in a storage zone? can a pawn freely move from the stove to the storage area (i.e. are they set to unrestricted or all items inside the home zone). double check rice is tickled in the bill details
