visitors turned on themselves??
so I just had a war merchant group passing through my base. normal stuff, did a quick trade, went back to bed. then a couple of them got into a random fistfight with each other over social comments between them. again, normal stuff. and yet suddenly their names turned red (I forget if that would happen normally or not) and the rest of *their own group* swarmed around them and started punching the crap out of them both?? because within less than two seconds one of them was dead on the ground and the other was severely injured, way way more damage than should have happened from just the two of them duking it out.

like, earlier there was another group around when a hare went mad and they accidentally blew up one of their dudes while bombing the rabbit, one-shotting them both, which was fricking hilarious! buuuuuut, that one at least made sense? massive derp, but dude died to an aoe. this?? this was weird. I even double-checked and yeah, they were both the same faction as the group that attacked, it wasn't some weird mix of groups coincidentally near each other or something.

probably started trying to kill one of their own and remember when your prisiners go on a murder spree they become enemies so yeah within hte npc faction they were turning upon themselves

the weird thing though, is I've seen groups have internal fistfights before, many times, without anyone else getting involved. they just duke it out privately and move on, like your own colonists having a spat. I've never seen the rest of the group swarm them and beat the crap out of them *both*. It's also sorta confusing that it *was* done with punching even though they were all carrying guns? Guns, but punched one to death and the other nearly to death in less than two seconds, and the beatings only stopped because the one died and so the spat between the two was over, I guess. I just feel like none of this makes sense. XD

Yeah sounds like they got into a social fight I mean colonists in same faction do it all the time why not carvan AI? I see them talking to each other while eating and what not. And they don't ♥♥♥♥ around they bring some serrious firepower normally so yeah I could see a fight turning lethal fast for them. Its like when melee specialist gets into a fight with a person who insulted them, it can lead to death, or missing parts real fast. Had one with a knife cut some ones finger off adn take out an eye once because they insulted the wrong dude in the hallway...

yes, again, visitors getting into social fights with each other happens normally all the time XD what doesn't happen usually is the rest of their group getting involved, just like if a couple of your own colonists get into a fight the rest of your own guys don't surround them and beat the crap out of them, *that's* the weird part, lol. that and the fact that all the caravan guys *were* packing "some serious firepower" and yet all they did was punch the guys to death/nearly to death.

It might be new behavior with 1.3 or Ideology. I've never seen a social fight go that far before.

I assume you're on 1.3 + ideology? Seems like it could be related to their ideology? Maybe the offending pawns triggered some sort of retribution?

In 1.2 If you had a visitor group and one of them went berserk (which would require a whole string of mood debuffs so it would be unusual), their name would turn red and their compatriots would treat them as an enemy. But having multiple visitors go berserk simultaneously would be highly unlikely (although still possible, I think).

When you say "severely injured," do you mean "downed?" I ask because if they were injured but not downed that means they de-aggroed.

A problem with Rimworld is that newly generated pawns do not start with relations to others in their group, even of the same faction. So, if a pawn has a trait that reduces opinion (ugly, abrasive, mysoginist/misandrist) they can start social fights. While rare, a social fight *can* kill a pawn (I've had this happen to a colonist once) so that wouldn't be all too strange. This is especially prevalent in the vanilla combat system, as so many injuries that don't really make sense like getting hit in the brain without taking damage to the head or skull can happen.

I had an Imperial wimp visit my colony due to a quest, she got knocked out in a single punch after starting a fight over ideoligion, no matter how many times she got back up and kept fighting her name never turned red. I had to haul her to the pickup shuttle while she was unconscious because she just wouldn't give up.

Actually I'm still on only base game. it's 1.3, but I have neither royalty nor ideology.

I don't remember for totally certain but I think the survivor between the two was still standing when the fighting stopped. The reason it stopped was the other one died. I did check their social logs and one of them had insulted the other which got them into a totally normal social fight, not a berserk state. And it was both of them that got the crap beaten out of them by everyone else in their group while they were only wailing at each other.
