I can't actually speak to the quality of the content in Ideology, as I wasted an hour removing everything Rimworld related from my system and reinstalling. It's too late in the day for me to start delving into actually content at this point.
And I'm really just not in the mood anymore.
I'll help you out

Come up with your own opinion trust me
So every winter he would lose his mind in his burka, strip naked and wander into the snow till he passed out, got frostbite and I had to cross fingers the doc could save his damn fingers and toes every winter. I spent like 6 winters swearing up a storm at that guy as I got a notice that oh some one needs attention, and it was the damn nudist losing his ♥♥♥♥ again. Like I think one winter he lost it 3 times each time I wanted to leave him for dead, especially since he wandered so far off and the deep snow made the doc move so damn slow to go rescue his ass. But I knew if I let him freaking die it would ♥♥♥♥ up whole colony when his wife had a mental breakdown over his death.
That to me was insanely memorable I can see it just typing about it that fat bastard dropping clothes on the ground while hunting, oddly enough great hunter, and I would eventually just give up and make clubs/maces so I could send people out to beat him out cold every winter and drag his ass back so he wouldn't get frost bite again.
So yeah for me idiology adds a lot of flavor elements for rpg part of thsi game so its well worth the 20 bucks :P People looking for "usefull" things like content to make your colony more bad ass, or some kind of fancy toys. Yeah this ain't for you, try Royalty dlc :P
Second that story makes me even less interested in buying the expansion mostly because of the lame ass RP snob attitude oozing out of every line of that crappy post
third if you were a real RPer and story player you'd let the pawn freeze to death in the most awkward or humorous way and then have the real story of the colony burning down and dealing with that rather than sticking with the "boring survival" aspect that you're choosing instead
So I'm still wondering if ideology adds anything INTERESTING or new to the survival and colony sim part of the game....
and not ♥♥♥♥ that would just trivialize the game like the previous snob seems to think people that aren't RPers want...
So is it really mostly a story telling expansion? Basically it seems a bit like micromanaging more aspects about pawns to see what whacky things happen?
as for royalty I thought it was pretty disappointing too..
I liked the idea of supporting an indie studio but the DLC was pretty underwhleming IMO
I mean it gives an in game way of making a game easier or harder but that's about it.
I made it less serious though. I prefer old Warhammer lore because it reads more like satire. So my cultists have mandatory rave parties for example.
If you play Rimworld just as colony sim, I can see how it might not be that interesting. When you assign roles to your pawns within your ideology, they do get extra abilities though. And some help with combat, research, crafting etc. Depending on role and chosen memes. This could make the survival aspect more interesting.
One of the biggest additions to the game is Colony flavor. without Ideology you're basically always running the same colony with a slightly different goal. With Ideology you can have a colony specifically be psychopathic cannibals, or a cult of animal worshipers, or whatever.
The only issue I can say I have with the DLC is that if you're very used to vanilla it can be tough to change your way of thinking to make some of the special colony work. You really need to know what the Ideology you chose is about.
That should be less of a problem now with the latest update for the DLC. You can now let your ideology evolve through play, instead of starting with a fully designed one.
This update fixes one of my main issues that I had with the DLC. I don't always want to plan everything in advance. Sometimes I just want a fully random start and now you can do that with ideology to some point as well.
It was worth it for me and I am enjoying the extra content but that doesn't mean you will feel the same as I do.
