I keep on having a failed ceremoney because the person just walks into like a river and stops and i have to do it there. Is there a way to select it?

Which ceremony? If it's for yeoman, you can set up a party spot where you want the ceremony to be at. For yeoman, bestowers usually aim for gathering spots, which are usually tables. If it's acolyte and up, you need a throneroom.
