Bulk traders with 0 veg
It's very strange that bulk traders sell many types of meat but, in my experience, never any plant sourced foods at all. Here I am with 20 starving farm animals because I've run out of hay, veg and kibble, then a bulk trader shows up with none of these things for sale, just 500 rat meat and some hats. This must be an oversight, since of all traders this should be the one who reliably has these things in stock? Also when I give up waiting for a useful trader to appear and visit a base, most times it's again just meat and meals for sale. I bet if I visited a faction base with an Ideology demanding vegetarianism, that this would STILL be the case. I'm pretty sure this issue has been a pain for players for years, idk why they don't change it to make sense. A hole to fill with a mod in the meantime 😐

the same.

Maybe unlucky or a mod changes supply?

Yes, I have noticed this too. Especially, as my current playthrough is a vegetarian ideology.
However, almost all bulk traders supply pemmican and if you don't have any, then buy some meat which can be used to produce your own kibble.
Some bulk traders do supply some types of veg though, such as agave.
In any case, the dietary needs of your pawns come first so focus on that. As for your animals, just build them a couple of large pens on untouched vegetation and your handlers will move them there. That's one of the things I really like about 1.3... animal feeding is much easier and less of an issue than it used to be ;)

My bulk traders have the same problem, i cant remember the last time ive bought veg from a trader. I wonder if something in ideology prevents it, or is causing problems. Im playing unmodded with both dlc, and i usually play tree connection, and rancher or animal personhood, so it might have something to do with it.

Yeah I remember since before 1.0 & since before I started using mods, that veg/fruit was bizarrely almost never available from any traders. I just experimented and spawned 6 bulk traders in dev mode, and they all sold multiple types of fresh meat but only 1 sold some veg (fungus in this case). Logically a caravan wouldn't even transport so much meat without it all spoiling in a couple days anyway, so it just feels nonsensical in addition to being annoying that no plant produce is for sale. It's almost like they travel empty-handed to 1 tile outside my base, slaughter & butcher 25 wild animals, and then step in to sell it all? I suppose the meat I don't buy they then just dump on the roadside on the way back to their base? Gee, if only they had a brain between them and brought relatively none perishable, actually useful corn instead. It's all kinda silly.

There's no logic on the traders to distinguish between meat and veges and I don't believe there ever has been, bulk goods caravans simply pick 3-4 random raw food items to sell (excluding fertilized eggs). There are a lot more meats in the game then vege's so more often than not you are just going to see meat, especially if you have mods adding more types of animals to the game.

I also can't understand how some ppl say they are seeing veg stocked when, for years playing this game and before modding at all, I almost never would. I resorted to a 'more trader types' mod that introduced farming traders and that solved it, but I believe it's outdated now 😕

That theory makes sense, but sounds like a pretty flawed way of doing it if that's the case, hence the surreal overabundance of meat for sale were seeing

I believe still active in the 'more trade ships' mod I use. Fairly sure I've had farming supplies traders visit in my current playthrough I only started a few days ago.

I would assume on a game balance view that it'd be because it's a lot easier to get veggies than meat, on average. Veggies just require a little bit of work throwing some seeds down, wheras meat requires combat skills and can result in injuries. As for hay, you know that green stuff on the floor can feed animals too, right? :P

Thanks for the tip I will check the mod out 🙂. I disagree in that i find meat often easier to get - not only needn't u wait in-game weeks to grow the food, but if there's several predators on the map you can just butcher the 15% eaten ibex they leave around every 1 or 2 days, risk free.

In the past meat was the only thing people usually cared about buying anyway. You'd set up farms on day one and that was passive veges for the rest of your playthrough. Meat was something you had to put some player effort into getting and was required for fine/lavish meals, so buying meat from a trader made some sense. Now with ideology adding food restrictions, passive meat generation, and more meal variety, it would probably make some sense to separate meat and veges on traders to get a more even mix of both.
