Cured Asthma! Some Questions.
Rofl so... im ecstatic about having cured one of my colonist of her Asthma. I just had a raid and managed to capture 3 raiders in 1 go... So I figured this is the moment to do some experimenting!

1) One of the raiders instantly died on administering smokeleaf as anesthetic? Why is this?
2) Managed to harvest left lung of raider 2... Colony now in a bad mood. except for my doctor, so doctors that perform the surgery never get this penalty then?
3) Managed to harvest right lung of raider 3... Colony now in a bad mood x2. Again except for my doctor. Is there not any way to prevent this mood penalty on 99% of colonists?
4) so Asthma... Does this actually have an effect on anything the person does? it says breathing at 90%, but... does that mean she does work slightly slower? As in is it even worth going trough surgery in the future for this? :)

5) What drugs are a better anesthetic? It worked well on my own colonist who was completely out of it, but the prisoners were still semi conscious...
6) I'm thinking of getting the ideology expansion cause I'm liking the game so much. I might be more motivated to do so if there was like... a harvesting ideology that allowed me to do surgery as I pleased ;)) Otherwise Ill just install a mod for it.

ther is an option where you can harvest organs without any mood debuff. but only pawns with that ideology are effected from that. all others will still suffer the mood debuff for harvesting organs.

1.) Smokeleaf reduces Consciousness. If that capacity reaches 0%, they will die. It is possible that They may have already had low consciousness from other effects.
2.) Did the colonist doing the surgery have the "Pyschopath" trait? If so, they won't get a debuff if they harvest an organ.
3.) see above
4.) On Rimworldwiki com, it mentions that consciousness and movement will be lowered by poor breathing.
5.) IIRC when you schedule a surgery, the doctor will apply the medicine for the surgery and then they will get the hediff for being affected by anesthetic, lowering their consciousness until it wears off. You don't need to do anything else- 10% Conscious is normal and they will die if you try to lower it to 0.

Wooosh so I got lucky on my own colonist then? She had 1% consciousness after smokeleaf when I operated on er. I thought less consciousness would be better during surgery...?

Anaesthetic, which is automatically applied during surgery, reduces a pawn's maximum consciousness to 1%. Meanwhile smokeleaf reduces a pawn's current consciousness by 30%. In other words, if a pawn at or below 30% consciousness take a smokeleaf joint, they die.

Automatically as in I don't need to have actual drugs available??
Why is there an option to administer drugs then?

The only way to prevent the mood penalty on non-psychopath or non-bloodlust pawns would be to use Ideology's "Organ use" precept. Or use mods, I guess.

Automatically as in when the doctor begins the surgery, they use 1 Medicine or Glitterworld Medicine to apply anaesthetic.

The option to administer drugs is primarily for incapacitated pawns who suffer from poor mood or even withdrawal symptoms, and you want them to be able to get drugs to counteract that.

Or for doping prisoners who you want to recruit but don't want breaking out
