RimWorld

Underground Undergrowth
I built a conventional underground farm. And nothing is happening. I'd take a screenshot but for some reason that isn't working now (it won't upload, that's a Steam problem).

There's nothing unusual about it. But no one will plant anything. Has this problem arisen fo r anyone in 1.3?

how high is the fertility of the ground? how high is the temp. of the room? do you have mods installed?
Emelio Lizardo Aug 4, 2021 @ 1:27pm
Do I have mods installed? :D Nothing I didn't have installed before. I have fertile fields which allows me to build fertile floor tiles. The temperature is fixed at 30-31. the column turns on the sun daily as it should. But no one will show up to sow crops despite everyone set to first priority growing crops. They do plant outdoor fields as normal.

Did you make a grow zone over the soil? What are you trying to grow? Do your pawns have the plant skill to sow it?
Emelio Lizardo Aug 4, 2021 @ 1:39pm
Yes, the normal grow zone. Growing barley. Plenty of it growing outside. Before I put in the sun column it was set to mushrooms but they weren't being planted either. I hope someone has run into this and found a solution.

fertile fields is not even compatible with 1.3 even if its tagged as, it broke few hotfixes ago and never fixed. i would start by deleting that mod.

You said you built the soil with Fertile Fields? If you dev mode in soil instead, do the pawns plant on it?
Cormac Aug 4, 2021 @ 2:08pm
my question was: how much fertility does the ground have? mouse over it and look at the lower left hand corner

edit: misread your anwer, so you do have mods installed...
the game updated, many mods needs to be updated for the current version, to
some mods says they are updated to 1.3 but they don't work, or have bugs.... to make a mod 1.3 "compatible", the modder basicly just needs to change one line, basicly saying "is thos mod 1.3 > yes", ok, now it shows as compatible, but that doesn't mean it works.
so i believe maltsi is right

I haven't tried that but I don't think I'd be able to zone it if the program did not recognize it as soil. I'll give it a try at some point.

i don't know how rimworld handles this sort of thing... either it checks "does the tile has any kind of fertility set, than allow growth zone" (i.e. 0 fertility is still fertility, see below)
or "does the tile has a 'is growthable' tag, than allow growth zone" (evenn though it doesn't have a fertility set at all)

in both cases, it will be the same effect.

the later has the tag, that you can groth things on it, but without any fertility set, no plants are "growable" on the tile, thus nothing will be planted
the first, while having 0 fertility, there are no unmodded (maybe not even modded) plants that needs at least 0% fertility.
even nutrifungus is only growthable on tiles with at least 30% (or was it 15%?) fertility, once your tile has less that 30% fertility, no one will plant anything because there is no tile the plant can growth on

edit: it is 30% min. fertility for nutrifungus and 15% sensitivity

Soil is rated at 100% fertile.

I really, really, love and need Fertile Fields. I hope it gets properly updated, if that's the problem. The way things are going I may just revert back to 1.2 and freeze the game there.

That's what I'm wondering, too, and why I suggested trying it with dev mode. To see if it's the Fertile Fields soil that's the problem.
Cormac Aug 4, 2021 @ 2:59pm
soil is 100%, how high is the fertility of your 'fertile fields' (and there are other mods out there updated for 1.3 who do the same, i believe)
Emelio Lizardo Aug 4, 2021 @ 3:32pm
The topsoil (which is what you build underground on the floor) is as it should be, 100%. I'll add the fertile soil and see what happens.
Emelio Lizardo Aug 4, 2021 @ 3:46pm
Ok. What I think happened is that a valid grow field was never created. It simply looked like one was there. When I (dev) placed sections and drew fields for them it worked fine. But also old sections (control) worked fine too. So it's an issue with the zoning and possibly the sun column. So, for now, Fertile Fields seems to be operating ok. I wish this would be integrated into the vanilla game as it is a excellent mechanic.

Thanks for your responses.
