Gauranlen Tree Soil Upgrade?
I see on the wiki there's a comment about the tree upgrading soil to the next best step around the tree. Can anyone confirm this? Just making sure it's not a rogue edit before I attempt to do this in my settlement. If it's accurate, does it require a pawn be linked to the tree?

Not noticed any upgrade in soil quality myself with them.

I haven't seen this effect myself. But if I look at the wiki, it doesn't say that the soil gets upgraded to the next step. It only states that it turns nearby stony soil into fertile soil over extended periods of time. Which is 'normal' soil useful for planting, not to be confused with rich soil.

This is the part that makes it seem like it's a step up fr the whatever it starts as:

"Only seems to work turning stony_soil into soil into fertile soil."

But it's also worded weird. Even confirmation on turning stony soil into regular soil would be nice as I haven't seen the effect yet myself.

I agree that the wording is weird. Especially since there isn't any 'fertile soil'. At least nothing with that exact name. There is soil (which has normal fertility), and rich soil, which has 140% fertility. And ofcourse things like lichen-covered soil. It would make sense for stony soil (fert 70%) to turn into soil (fert. 100%), into rich soil (fert. 140%).

Downside....it says that it happens over extended periods of time. I wonder how long that's supposed to take. But I have some gauranlen trees right next to stony soil, lichen-covered soil and regular soil. I'll keep my eye on them i case something changes.

That'd be awesome, thanks. Mine is near regular soil, but there is some Stony soil about 4-5 tiles away. If it does change stony to normal, I'm curious what the radius is

I assume it's the same radius you see when you plant the tree. About 7 tiles from the tree IIRC.

I may have caused too much chaos with this.
Gonna go remove it lol

That's my guess as well. Guess we'll see what happens!

Did you edit it in?
Fyredrakon Aug 23, 2021 @ 3:39pm
I couldn't get conclusive evidence for it, it jsut kinda seemed like it did so I added it to wiki. my bad

Dang, no worries

Try not to add things to the wiki which you cannot verify. If you can't verify it, there's usually a reason for it (that being that it isn't a thing in the first place).

After many years in my current colony, soil does not "upgrade" to rich soil. I also have serious doubts as to whether stony soil turns into soil.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

There is no comp attached to the trees in the game files that would allow them to upgrade terrain around them. It's just not a thing they do.
