To OP: If mods aren't a problem for you, I recommend mods that add more bionic organ replacements.
Also IRL lung transplants don't have a fantastic survival rate after extended use.
My mod recommendation to fix that is prosthetics plus. It adds an organic synthesizer that you can use to make lungs and an a couple other organs.
Idk what the game devs goals were with making some body parts replaceable and others not. It might be to have a use for organ harvesting. It might be for something else, idk.
With that are you justifying the absence of bionic lungs in the game?
Because if that's the case, google for "First prototype artificial lungs succeed", and that article is from 2018
The only other option you have is to collect live prisoners and turn your colony into an organ harvesting operation.
