Hunting muffalo
The tribe thirsts for food, and I want to hunt a muffalo. The only problem is they all get angry when I try to pick off a member of the heard. How do I kill either one or all of the muffalo without my colonists getting trampled? I'm also doing a medieval run so the best ranged weapons I have are bows, and the pila.

Use everyone. Bring lots. Moar... Bring good gear, good skills, excellent Hunting/Animal score (it helps) long range capable only weapons. And, bring one pawn you really don't like too, so they can take one for the team...

Or, better:

Unless you got the fighters to deal with the heard, dont attack it. And thats not only for muffalos. They however are pretty easy to tame instead.

Muffalo make great tamed animals, or at least used to. I'm a bit unsure of this new "Pen" thing and how it's going to work out. But, the fur is great!

And, if you're going for broke, getting a mod that sets Muffalo back to when they could give milk is a no-brainer, too. (Though, I confess, I've seen more cows being sold by traders in the latest patch than I ever have... ever... ever.)

I try to not to routinely let a Hunter hunt a dangerous animal unless I'm "chancing" it for the drama value. When there's a predator or really Big Game, I send a group. (Unless I'm looking to give the game a free shot at me. :) I do that sort of often, here and there.)

maybe lure them into traps

Partially bad luck. It is NOT guaranteed to set them all off at you.

With bows, you should be able to hunt them without angering the herd. You might need to micromanage your hunter. Make sure to stay away at the furthest range the bow will allow you. Unless this was changed, animals have a 'manhunter trigger' radius (is the best I can describe it), and as long as you stay outside of it with a long-range weapon, you can hunt them without angering them. The closer you are to them, the more likely you are to trigger manhunter.

Yeah, long distance, and if you don't want to push your luck you can also only shoot until it hits a lethal level of bleeding, then wait for that to finish it off.

The only surefire way to protect against it is to tame them before slaughtering (note that this will give you +50% meat and leather). Otherwise, the safest method would be to just draft a hunting party and go kill them, instead of hoping that the hunter stays far enough away from them to get back home where everyone can work together to fight the herd.

muffalo has one of highest breeding rates. You would have more meat farming tamed muffalo than waiting with a thumb up in butt, suffering continuously constipation, for more wild ones to appear.

Hunt in a group. If they agro, have a pawn run in circles being chased while the rest mow them down. A fast pawn is best, but a few hits and most animals will move slow enough that a regular pawn can kite them. This works for killing any animal, although if they agro right next to you, you might be in for some pain.

luring into traps also works but is more expensive.
