Tool Cabinet not connecting to all workbenches in range
I'm having a strange issue where my 2 tool cabinets won't connect to all the workbenches near them. Everything is in range (the farthest bench from either cabinet is only 6 tiles), but for some reason it seems like something is cutting off benches depending where I place the cabinets. Is there something obvious I might be missing?

I'm running 100% vanilla so I know it's not a mod thing.

Don't underestimate the power of mods.
Can you provide a screenshot maybe? I just tried an older save of mine and deconstructed and reconstructed a tool cabinet and the speed boost applied.

Here ya go. Excuse the layout, I just kinda threw a couple things wherever since I was getting baffled with the tool cabinets not connecting. They're connecting to some of the benches, but not all (like neither of them connecting to the smelter and the bottom one loses connection to the drug lab and machining table if I shift it one square to the left).

So apparently tool cabinets can't be used with smelters. I did not know that until today.

Smelter can't be linked. Not a good idea to use tools around a giant magnet : D What might be confusing you is that you think they might have a range going from the edge of their model, but it's one of the two spots of the tool cabinet that has the actual connection, so if you rotate it in a certain way, it might still look like in range but the actual connection part of it is out of range.

Stove, brewery and smelter are the 3 that can't be linked I think. Might be missing another one.

There's a good image of the range on the wiki. https://www.rimworldwiki.com/images/5/50/ToolCabinetRange.png

Edit: Yeah, I knew about the stove and brewery. The smelter is kind of surprising.

It's basically a giant magnet that you throw metals in. The only tool I could think of there are gloves and those don't really boost the magnets, but speaking in game terms it's definitely weird, since it's one of those low priority crafting that just take time and nothing else. It's basically a form of stone cutting + trash disposal. Also confused why the reduced slag smelting time "to reduce clutter" but not weapon smelting time.

I'm an idiot, I didn't know the smelter couldn't be connected. Also, I just figured out what was happening. The preview when you go to move the tool cabinet shows what it will connect to at the new spot, but it's bugged and doesn't actually show the connected benches properly. It showed that the machining table and drug lab wouldn't be connected, despite being in range and closer than the tailor bench, but after actually moving it, it correctly connected to them. I should have just moved the bench to see first.

Yeah I think the preview just draws a line from the right part of the cabinet or something like that..

Gotcha. Even then, everything would be in range though. Either way, mystery solved, haha

It's because I had classified the smelter as a workshop-type bench in my head. But I guess it's more of a crematorium-type bench: Because you might not want it in your workshop as it heats up the room when in use. But it would be nice if the cabinet worked with the smelter since it takes so long to smelt things.

Crematorium and refinery also don't link.

Side note.... Organized stockpiles? I approve.
Randomized floor tiles? Am triggered!

Haha, aside from the spikecore tiles, the random material ones are a holdover from when I first built the base. I left the granite and sandstone tiles that were in the ruin I built my base out of (and some steel walls) and just haven't gotten around to rectifying it. I also need to fill in the sand and dirt between some of the buildings.
