Never get into a shooting match with any ranged enemy and NEVER EVER get into a shooting match with an enemy which out-ranges you. Pull back to cover and wait for them to come into range. Any enemy, not just mechs, will tend to split up and move forward at different speeds. If your pawns move out of sight, some enemies might also get distracted by nearby walls and outside items; whereby, [maybe] not all of them will follow you deeper into your base or deeper into the forest at the same time. If you move away, they [might] split up when chasing you.
Every time they come into range, release a salvo and pull back again.
TL;DR move to cover, shoot, move to new cover, shoot again.
Now I am using anti-material rifles from VE mod pack, they are pretty good against them and due to weight/cooldown seem balanced.
Also it takes like 5-6 shots for them to kill sandbags, so u can use it as a cover instead of walls once intercepting em. I simply constructed sandback patches on the map in these places where I might encounter future raids.
If you got royalty, skip or the smaller beckon can just pick out those termites for you too, though centipedes with charge blasters will still continue to pick apart your walls pretty quickly after that.
Waiting inside can work sometimes, depending on how you walls actually look. Termites will continue to destroy buildings they see behind the wall. If there isn't anything directly behind the wall, you can wait inside and kill them like other mech raids and breach raids seem to be smaller in size.
And in general like with all problematic raids, you can use some of your backup like comms console millitary aid, royal title aid or one time use items. If you have ways of dealing with scythers or there aren't many, a low shield pack charge can be devastating enough to retreats inside before the shield depletes.
Skip is probably the easiest way to deal with termites and mechs in general I'd say.
