Termites counter everything. what do i do?
I can neither take cover nor engage in the open because they will shoot through the cover and its lancer friends will pick us off in the open.

It depends what tech you have. I've found miniguns are very good at taking out both lancers and termites. Melee, however, is also very good as both the lancer and termite can't do much at that range.

Yeah that would be good, Im on quite early tech with tribal research speed so the best I have is tribal mele weapons and basic guns. and a well balanced mech squad will outdo me in both mele and range. using the terrain to my advantage is my only hope but the termite shoots through it.
I need some EMP grenades

Yeah, I quite dislike termites. The counter I had is not so much a counter, more strategy. I have usually pillboxes in early defence. Essentially a square inside sandbags with doors in the four sides. I duck away and let termite get in close as it breaches in. Then moment it shoots, jump my folks out and focus fire.

Having a couple EMP launchers which is fortunately lower end tech helps a fair bit.

I usually have two em launchers and one em grenader during raids if I can make or steal/buy. Grenade is really nice because of its blast range.

If you can get ambush on the termite, take it out and duck back to lure the lancers back in. Just melee engage lancers. Even your shooters. Lock the lancers into melee. A lancer melee skill is very poor so it usually avoids any serious injury.

Shield belts lack the lasting power so melee assault on termite is quite risky.

With DLC, a shield pack is an expensive, but powerful tool to counter mechanoid raids. The new dryads in DLC are a fantastic anti mechanoid raid. Less mood hit if one dies, and replaceable. The armored ones can take and distract lancer hits reasonably.

Wargs, lots and lots of wargs.

If you're early on the tech tree and lack things like psychic powers, your only real option is to bumrush them and take them in melee. Mechanoids generally don't start to show up until you're into your second year, and their raids start off small, so you likely out number them. A couple of colonists with clubs will, on average, beat a lancer, pikeman, or termite in a fight.

Industrial age guns can win in a fire fight, psychics can abuse the heck out of mechanoids, and spacers can shred mechanoids. For a tribal start, you're just going to have to eat the injuries and hope that the mechanoids don't notice you right away as you charge at them.

Termites can't really deal with sandbags and barricades, so taking cover is still very much possible.

Though I have to wonder why your "quite early tech" tribal village is getting raided by mechanoids. Usually those take a bit to show up. You didn't do something silly, like build a couple of legendary gold statues?

Randy got me good at start of this commitment mode. Four raids in a week. Third one being a mech. The fourth was a smaller pirate raid, but they had a skill 20 shooter who was mowing me down, plus an incendiary trigger happy.

I lost 4 out of seven colonists to that raid. Two dying of infections. I had managed enough meds to amputate one limb just in time, but surgery failed. It was rough cause three of them were starting colonists. Only my spiritual leader survived....

But EM definitely is under valued for its ability. Keep a shelf with some EM readily equippable will save so much pain.

Side tip, make or get a pair of smoke launchers for mech clusters. If you can trigger mechs to pull, the smoke blocks turret targetting to those inside, giving ability to shoot turrets and them not shoot back.

This kind of building is particulary good if you equip 1/2 colonist with iem weapons who target the entry for stunning mechanoids

It allways amazes me how often people manage to not link screenshots.

I assume you meant to link the following.

yeah i like to make little defensable areas like that but termites sit there and shoot holes in it while the other mech patiently wait. Its quite the annoyance

Side note on that. Have sterile tile for biosculptor pods. The operation time varies on cleanliness. A sterile room give an efficiency multiplier of 115 if fully clean iirc.

True, maybe mortar with IEM shells ? but the accuracy isn't reliable
