Used them in the past before and I loved them... But they do make a lot things quite trivial. Especially since you can place your turrets behind them as well so those are protected from melee enemies as well.
That kills the difficulty. But if you go for something like Igor Invader/500% Threat etc. i guess its alright.
I use embrasures extensively very good vs melee dudes BUT mortars and enemies with AOE attacks make short work of them usually.
Manhunter packs tho its a free gallery shooter.
Still better than that insanely exploity game breaking kill box tho.
and what do u mean by killbox, room zone or maze full of traps ?
because without making room zone I believe embrasures arent helping with enemies outranging your pawns
maybe there is something that allows animals to attack embrasured walls ?
But aren't vanilla turets meh ?
The last time mad fox 1x2 manned my vanilla turrets, they literally hit that animal once.
Therefore it is just silly that a spacer civ would still be bothered by a bunch of manhunting animals... but that's just Rimworld things.
Ahh, and I wanted to add another thing: I think it is not scummy to use them if you style your game around it. When the VE Settlers Expansion came out I played as well "Settlers" in the Savannah that were defending against braves, bandits and bugs. I had this desert cowboy town in mind with high pallisades around it etc. pp. In the end I used embrassures at some points in the outer wall to shoot at incomming enemies while they were on route to the base entrance. I thought that was kinda appropriate. Nothing too fancy and most of the times my pawns got shot anyways or the AI would try to use them against me. So nothing OP here.
In another playthrough I tried playing with just one pawn. A mad scientist that tried to automate as much as possible. I used embrassures heavily and build really unkillable killboxes because that was the only way to go. In the end I got snatched by droppod raiders while a powerout...
So, I mean if you use them in a way that fits the game I think they are alright. But if you only use them to build a OP killbox I really think that they lower the difficulty too much.
And prettier
Yes melee raiders are at a disadvantage but last game I had them one they attacked the embrasures just fine. So that only leaves man-hunting animals and predictors so ymmv.
