Good Uses for Uraniam?
I have a nice little ice sheet base humming along and <wham> a uranium meteorite. Now I know what I /can/ do with uranium, but I was wondering what would be a /good/ use for 600+ units of it.

What are your thoughts or suggestions?

Slug turrets are pretty kickass

Uranium mace and slug turret (which uses alot of uranium to reload)

Oooo...I had forgotten about turrets. I haven't gotten to them yet, but yeah they do go through a bit of uranium. It'll be nice not to have to skrimp. Thanks!

Also, if you don't need it, just sell it to the next bulk trader. No need for the stuff to sit around in your storage, and selling things lowers the value of your colony, which results in weaker raids.

I hear that it's really useful for building space ships but I'm not certain. Someone else needs to fact check me there.

Uranium is good for blunt weapons, flak helmets and walls. The only thing stronger than uranium walls is plasteel walls, but those are flammable. I'd build an interior layer of uranium walls for an important building, such as a hospital or where you stash all of your sliver / valuables.

Yep, uranium maces have good DPS, and if you have some early game uranium makes decent simple helmet material to protect that noggin.

A higher quality uranium warhammer (I can't remember if it was Good or Excellent) does so much damage with its regular non-poke attack that it will one-shot non-tough humanlike pawns regardless of where it hits them.

This here. Uranium is needed in fairly large amounts to build a spaceship. The three engines and the main reactor each require 70 uranium, and each cryosleep casket requires another 14.

(seriously, though, why does this game not allow your pawns to build nuclear bombs???)

Presumably because there's neither oxidation nor 235 enrichment tech for it. Naturally occurring Uranium (U238) can't be made to attain supercriticality in a single stage. No runaway fission, no boom.

The bigger problem is more likely that any nuclear weapon would destroy the entire map you're on except for something deep in a mountain.

It would be nice to enrich uranium for power.

600 isn't a lot, I would save it until you feel like you need it for something. Marine and Cataphract armor is probably going to be the best use of a limited amount of uranium though. Once you get deep drilling or long range mineral scanning and can get a fairly steady supply of it, it's good for slug turrets and walls. It's generally the best material to use for an outer wall, as once you can start collecting it through the infinite methods it's rather easy to get and not a lot uses it. Plasteel is slightly better but used in a lot more things.

I've never done ice sheet before but I'm pretty sure you can't deep drill there.

Pretty sure Ice sheet you can, it's sea ice that has nothing. It's been a bit since I've done ice sheet, but seem to remember it was basically tundra but colder and no animals.

As for the uranium, I try to build my turrets from them as the hit points keep them from blowing up so fast, saving components in the long run
