Hauling question
is it possible to having colonist haul to a certain area. For example the colonist are hauling corn but I need them to haul the hay first since the animals have no food. I right click and tell them to haul hay they do one stack and go right back to hauling corn. The hay stockpile is set to critical and the corn stockpile is set to normal.
Or is there some mod that can tell the colonist to haul an certain area first. I've looked at the mods in the workshop, I thought maybe I over looked something.

Thanks

The Allow Tool mod gives you a separate Haul Urgently command you can set on items, and it can have different priorities in the work tab.

Assuming you have Work Tab mod which gives you 10 priority mods (0-9) instead of the pathetic vanilla 5 (0-4) you can do like i do and set Haul Urgently to 3, and normal Haul to 8 (i set cleaning to 9), that way they will haul stuff set to Haul Urgently first. Highlight all your hay and click Haul Urgently and they'll haul all of that before the rice.

You can also make a new Area and just put it on the hay and hay stockpile, then restrict some colonists' to only allowed to be in that area. The only job to complete is hauling the hay, so they'll do that, then start wandering, at which point you set them back on unrestricted.

Thank you so much I added the mods to the game and it has made it so much easier to play now!

You're welcome! I honestly don't know why they haven't added more priority options to vanilla because 0-4 isn't nearly enough and tbh i'd like even more than Work Tab's 0-9.

Btw since you have Work Tab i should mention you can easily make high priority jobs a little more complex and make your pawns do their own jobs more competently, for instance i have doctoring (and only doctoring) on priority 1 so that it's the first thing that gets done, i have firefighting, bed rest and patient on 2, and Haul+ (which is haul urgently) and Basic on 3, Haul on 8, Cleaning on 9, and use 4-7 for a pawn's actual jobs IE construct on grow/plant cut on 4, construct on 5, mining on 6, research on 7.

Cause you don't really need more than 4. Having 9 is just making you do unnecessary clicks

Unnecessary clicks? All it does is save clicks. You have to have the essentials IE bed rest, patient and firefighting at first priority, 1. You generally need Doctoring on 1 as well otherwise the doctor will sit in bed waiting to be treated, forcing you to click at least twice more per pawn who's injured, and even if it is at 1 he'll often firefight or rest in bed instead of tending to Mr. Bob who's at 90% blood loss regardless. Also, you should generally have Haul and Clean and other last priority stuff on 4, that way when pawns finish all their jobs they'll clean/haul instead of wandering wasting time while my hay decays in my field. That only leaves 2 levels for general jobs, assuming you don't have doctoring on 2 which makes the doctor go do some construction and mining or whatever else you have on 2 before treating people.

With 0-9 you can just about set all their jobs they're good at with perfect organization of urgent tasks like doctoring so that you almost never need to intervene. I just thought that with more like 15 or 20 i could have everybody set to all tasks they're bad at at just lower than cleaning, so that if there's not even any hauling or cleaning left to do wandering colonists can go do some lumberwork or some such, as well as have more organization inside tasks IE make the construction pawns work in the order of repair damaged things -> build/remove roof -> construct new objects -> terraform land if yo uuse fertile fields mod like me.

It doesn't, it leaves 4 levels since the system also works left to right and the 1 priority jobs you mentioned are already on the left and the 4 priority ones are on the right. You can set mining to 1 on your miner and it will work exactly the same as if you set mining to 2 or 4 in your example, doctoring and rest will still happen first, hauling and cleaning will still happen last.

I do use Work Tab, but I almost never set anything above 4, it's just not needed unless you have mods adding a bunch of new work types.
Yeah, Astasia summed it quite well.

This is why I even mentioned unnecessary clicks. The work tab isn't set and forget for a lot of players since we may change their priorities/jobs several times depending on the game. It would just get tedious IMO when four does the job just fine in vanilla.
I played for a long time without Work Tab, i would know, they don't, and as fellow RimWorld players i cannot believe you actually think a pawn would ever go naturally do doctoring when his hauling is set to the same value. He will always rather go move a rotting corpse than help the starving plague victim. It's how pawns are. They like to troll you.

I just like having everything set up perfectly so my pawn with 10 Medical, 8 Construction, 6 Mining, 6 Planting and 7 Research will doctor first, then bed rest/firefight, then haul urgently, then do some plant work, then do some construction, then do some mining, then do some research, and if all else is done go do hauling/cleaning work. That's difficult to do in vanilla.
And it should work fine for the most part when numbers are set appropriately. A few things to note. The system used to be bugged to some degree, I don’t know if those small quirks ever got addressed. IIRC schedules do play a role, like there’s a difference in what they’re choosing to do depending if it’s set to anything, work, or joy.

You are mistaken. It literally tells you this information at the top of the work tab. It's not a hidden tooltip or tutorial tip, it's always visible and printed right at the top of the tab. Jobs on the left are higher priority, jobs on the right are lower priority.

But i don't want my doctor to firefight before he tends, and i don't want my researcher hauling before he researches. But to fix that i have to waste at least half my priority levels.

One is not half of four.

What do you need to do with the remaining 3 that you are finding difficult?

If i want my doctor to tend before he firefights or patients without turning off firefight and patient which is stupid i have to set doctor to 1 and firefight and patient to 2, which then wastes one, and if i want them to research before they haul and clean without turning off haul or clean which is stupid i have to set research to 2 and haul/clean to 4, at which then wastes another, leaving only 1 level (3) for all other jobs. Then i still have haul urgently, bed rest and basic, which don't fit in easily anywhere.

Isn't it easier to just be able to say "do exactly this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this, okay?"

Like I understand the confusion, and I wish I could do a better job explaining the system in detail to you, but it really is as simple as you want it to be as soon as you fully grasp the left to right mechanic and can think that way reflexively. You haven't listed any "wasted" priorities in your example, you still have 1-4 to use for various jobs and still have the pawn function as you want. 1-2 can still be used for random important tasks like haul urgently or plant cut, you then have the entire left to right tab for all of 3 and 4 to assign to various jobs because hauling/cleaning on 4 doesn't change anything, set crafting to 4 and they will craft before hauling, set growing to 4 they will grow before crafting, set crafting to 3 instead and they will craft before growing, how many jobs are you even trying to give your colonists? More often than not you can get away with just 1-3 priority levels because colonists tend to only have time in the day for 1-2 main jobs.
