[RP] Does recruiting prisoners make sense?
I've mostly been recruiting people by rescues and quests, but it's very slow. I was thinking about recruiting prisoners but to me it doesn't make sense. Most prisoners have family and/or friends in their own factions, even if I recruit someone as a prisoner, I don't think I could fully trust them.

From which perspective are you trying to view this? The perspective of the omnipotent overseer (aka the player)? The perspective of a member of your colony? Or the perspective of a prisoner?

I started with naked brutality, so I guess the leader of the colony and player.

As a prisoner, I'd agree to anything if you let me out of the cell and have a weapon. Prisoners are for organs and selling.
for RP there are many aspects that could make sense:

if you think of the faction as something akin to mercs recruiting them should be a possibility

if they have low resistance they might have an disagreement with their faction.

in regards to the colony you might offer a better enviroment compared to their current home. survival is pretty much the most important thing. if life in your colony seems better for them they might join.

when thinking about recruiting prisoners think about how their faction is supposed to be like and that the raiders are most likly grunts and therefore disposable for their faction. they can be fanatics or patriots. those are probably pawns you dont wanna recruit RPwise.
You can't "fully trust" any pawn, even your starting pawn(s), this is built into the game. If you don't treat them well enough they will have mental breaks, which sometimes means they will try to murder people, or just leave the colony. Recruitment isn't just a magic loyalty switch, you convince them that your colony is a decent place for them, then you have to continually prove it by managing their mood. I don't know if you've ever attacked a faction base, there's not much there, just an awful barracks and some defenses, your colony is special and it's fairly easy to convince people they will have a better life there.
I tend to think of lowering resistance as either giving them reasons you are better (Hey. Your guys ran at us with spears and jeff over there had half of you down with the MG. Maybe some day you can have one of those, and we have ac!) or literal brainwashing, or any number of things. And yeah, as astasia said, its still a struggle to keep them loyal at times.
Personally, I find 95% of rescue/quest pawns are complete trash... with patience you can 'cherry pick' raiders that you want to join.

Use either psychic shock lances or just use light damage weapons to cause them to bleed heavily and move slowly so they pass out before they can escape :D
I prefer to visit friendly/neutral faction bases and shop around so to speak.

But, they gave me new clothes and fine meals and spent time with me, talking with me about all my problems and actually listening to me!

And, they have a television and a AmaDisneyFlix++ subscription!

No no you use mutagens to combine them with Alpaca, cows and chikens making them into a form super livestock that makes milk, eggs and wool.

Or you harvest most organs and limbs than use them as blood sacrfice for Cuthulu before grinding the body into paste to feed the biomass needed to start splicing shogoths with dogs.

pawnmorpher, gentic rim and the lovecraft cult mods open so many better options than selling them

I like to think my recruiters tell the guys, "Look, we're switching over to leather chairs, right? So I'm going to give you two options. You can either sit in the chair, or as the chair."
From a vanilla standpoint it could be a simple explanation like Stockholme Syndrome. They've been imprisoned long enough, with you as their sole benefactor, to have formed an attachment to your pawns.

From a modded standpoint...

If I'm RPing, I only recruit prisoners who have traits that align with my colony's philosophy.

So if I'm playing a civilized "good" colony, I only recruit prisoners with traits like Kind. Those prisoners may see something in the colony that they agree with and may join.
I just install the Metal Gear Solid skins, clothing and weapons and pretend I'm Venom Snake Fulton extracting Africans and Russians, and them just magically deciding to abandon their home and families and join me on an Oil Rig in the Aegean.

Speaking of which, any modders here wanna make it so I can build an oil rig? Scientific reasons, of course.
Well, from a "Raider" perspective, the life in a colony seems safer and more stable than risking the butt raiding even more to get food and equipment, in other words: would you rather keep risking your life, or go to the potatoe fields , have a warm meal and a bed at the end of the day.
Now, Tribals? it could be seen as some sort of "education" like telling them to die for his gods / ideals it's a pretty stupid idea, and it kinda make sense because his resistance is way highter, kinda like they are stubborn or way too loyal.
Any other kind of prisioner... well, it could be seen evily as you become an ally or become food for the farm.
