Quest is killing game performance
I'm running an i9-9900k 3.6ghz cpu, 32 GB DDR4 4000, on an 8GB DDR5 GPU.

Rimworld is the only game I have that lags on it, and only started lagging because of this quest with 12 visitors I'm supposed to protect. The game is barely playable. Does anyone know how to get the game to perform properly under this situation? I'm giving serious consideration to just slaughtering my guests just to get the game back to playable.

SOLUTION: It was "Colonist Bar". Never thought a single UI mod might bring my rig to its knees, but there you go.

I don't have 12 available bedrooms for that many guests and so those sort of quests are never accepted. Besides, the quest reward is rarely worth the extra work required to protect guests of any amount ;)

There is certainly something not working correctly if 12 visitors lag your beast machine.

I haven't read of any serious performance complaints for vanilla RimWorld, so I would suspect something on the local machine side isn't working right. I would check your graphic card settings, make sure the graphic card is being used instead of a motherboard native card. Check drivers are up to date and google how to check for other possible hardware/software issues.

If you are modded, try removing all mods and seeing if that fixes the problem. If it does, you know it is a mod causing the performance issue.

rimworld only uses 2 cores so my i7700-HQ 3.8ghz runs the game faster. look on the workshop. someone is working on a mod called Rimthreaded to allow the use of more cores.

Turn on dev mode and open the log to see if any errors are being spammed. Might point toward what the issue is. 12 guests should noticeably slow tick speed, but shouldn't cause serious performance issues unless something is wrong.

I tried that first, sadly it made it run even slower. Tried disabling all mods, but that left me with a completely blank screen for some reason. :/

I'm now going to be going through and disabling mods by blocks and seeing if that affects anything.

Colonist Bar. One single freaking UI mod. I'm guessing from whatever scaling that happened when the additional 12 guests showed up.

But yeah, disabled it and the entire game is suddenly running perfectly.

I was wondering why this was happening to you because I have just about the same specs and I only start lagging REALLY late into the game on the largest map settings with 30+ "colonists"
