Looking for a mod to get my pawns to eat what they are carrying
I've noticed pawns try to grab food and hold it in their inventory. When they get hungry, they run to the fridge, and get new food instead of eating what they are carrying - unless there is no food in the fridge.
The problem is, the food they are carrying eventually rots, and then the pawn just goes to get new food from the fridge to carry it around... until it too rots.
Is there a mod that'll get my pawns to eat what's in their hands first, before getting new food from the fridge?

I've never had an issue with this, are you sure it's not a mod issue though i might just not be noticing

This is something that is well hidden, but it might be a mod issue. Could you load any one of your games, and look in your pawn's inventory to see if they are carrying food?
If you are carrying food, watch when they are hungry - do they go to the fridge if it is near by, and grab more food before eating what they have?
Please at least look... :(

I am fairly certain that any food in a colonist's inventory while they remain on the map (IE not a caravan) never rots. They will pick up a meal to bring with them, and often raw food for taming, but it never seems to disappear or affect the rate of food consumption in a colony.

That could be true. I only looked at the age of the food in their inventory vs the age of the food in the fridge.
I suppose it won't matter if you are correct, and food carried by colonists is automatically frozen.
I don't know if you are correct or not, but I'm pretty sure I've seen corpses carried by a pawn rot while being carried, and that's probably considered food.

Colonists can't carry corpses in their pocket. Hauling and storing things on them follow different rules. I also am not sure if food is basically frozen while in their pocket or they are just really good at eating it before it rots, I just know it's not an issue in terms of food consumption. The main evidence I have that it simply never rots is I use a mod that turns food items into "rotted mush" when it rots, instead of disappearing, and I never see rotted mush being generated after I setup a freezer.

I forced my colonist to pick up food that was going to expire soon. I watched the clock, and then forced the colonist to drop the food. The food had moved towards the expiry time by the correct amount. Food carried by the colonist also rotted while in the colonist's hands.

Then they already do an amazing job of making sure to eat what they are carrying before it rots.

In RimWorld.FoodUtility.TryFindBestFoodSourceFor(), the first food source checked is the pawn's inventory. If the food is going to rot within 12 hours and the pawn is capable of eating it without a mood hit, he will. Only if that search fails will the pawn start to look for food on the map.
