Tree growing back ?
Hey,

i just came back on rim since last patch.
I decided to go for a game in a tundra in maximum difficulty, as a tribe.
Unfortunatly, it look like since last patch tree don't grow back in cold, and you can't " grow " them yourself. It wasn't the case before, am i missing something ? It's just unplayble as a tribe with a limited amount of wood.
Ofc, i know i can settle nearby location to gather wood, wich i did, but... it's painful, anyone know the reason why tree don't grow back in cold ? It don't make much sens, in a tundra at least

Thank you !

If you grow trees outside their tempature range they will not grow. And icey bioms are one of the hardest spots to settle in due to the diffiuclty growing anything. The only thing i can think of is making a bulding. Place torches for warmth and light and see if trees can grow in there or at the very least have the roofing removed over them. Not much you can do as a tribe without growing lamps so thats the best I can think of.

Well, the fact that i can't grow food is compensated by the fact that outside is like a fridge to keep meat fresh, wich i got from hunting. For the wood it's another problem. I've thought about what you said, but the wood cost to fuel the heat in the room would cost me more than the actual wood i get. But i guess every colonist could grow his tree next to his bed... xD

Did you know that the word 'tundra' comes from the Finnish word, 'tunturi', and means 'treeless plain'.
;)

I did not.

In those kinds of situations, I depend on windmills, solar generators, or other generators to keep the stoves going, the rooms heated, and the indoor gardens and orchards heated up to keep growing. Being tundra, there should be some areas that you can enclose in a heated room and grow directly in the soil.

That will require the OP to advance their technology beyond tribal to gain electricity.
That is possible in tundra and is precisely what I had to do with my current colony. FFS 129 is based in tundra with caves and started as tribal, because some here said it wouldn't be possible with infestations that come with caves. 12 years later, we're still here ;)

Starting with tribal in tundra means that wood is an extremely valuable and limited resource. You must research electricity and stone cutting technology as soon as possible to free yourself from dependence on wood.

Yep, i will probably start over the colony and use wood only when absolutly needed, and not for building, i wasn't aware that tree would not grow back at first.
And yes, can't use solar and stuff, as we have no electricity for first winter.
Thank you all, at least i know it's " normal " even if that wasn't the case last patch
