OK... how do I store eggs properly in this game?
Are the unfertilized ones ok in the freezer? (they are certainly not, IRL!) Are they better left refrigerated?

Do the fertilized ones need to be in an enclosed room that's a certain temperature?

Unfertilized eggs are safe to store in freezers.
Fertilized eggs will begin to die in they are too hot or too cold, and they'll decay outside, so keep them at a stable temperature indoors and they'll eventually be born.

im sure theres a mod for that, single wall mounted freezers, RIMFREEZER is the mod

fertilized eggs need to be kept ad room temprature, (capmfire of passive cooler should do.
And Iirc the tool tip of a egg should say what the tressholds are.

And yes the game simplefies stuff. like how you can harfest choclate with out the need for any process or even milk straight of a bush/tree. Meat does not have to cure befor it can be eaten and trees can be planted and harvested for wood within days.

for rimworld in general if it can decay or rot, you need to freeze it to preserve it.

Well, I mean, it gives an explanation for that one.

Also for fertilized eggs, if you want to see them hatched: make sure they're disallowed in cooking bills and store them in a location where your carnivorous animals can't reach them.

Specifically, ovivorous animals. Carnivores don't eat eggs, ovivores do.

Right, but is that distinction present within Rimworld?
I was under the impression that any animal that eats "meat" can basically eat anything that can be used as meat in a cooking bill (like milk, eggs, mushrooms etc.) Though I don't generally feed those types of food to animals, so it's not something I've paid close attention to and perhaps there's a bit more to it than that?

Yes. Most carnivores and omnivores in the game are incapable of eating animal products (milk, eggs, insect jelly).

Yikes! Noted! Sounds like I need to make a refrigerator just for the kibble! LOL rn I just let the animals walk into the main freezer and eat - they *usually* select the kibble.

I'll have to check if eggs are even allowed in the cooking by default - none of the eggs are being used atm. 1 rooster seems to be fertilizing 8 hens worth of eggs, lol... realism :)

Kibble doesn't need to be refrigerated at all. It never goes bad. It just needs to be kept inside so that it doesn't deteriorate.

The default meal and hopper setting includes unfertilized eggs but excludes fertilized eggs.

Kibble... doesn't... have to stink up my frig? F. Thanks for that.

I've never actually used the nutrient paste thing, its description made it sound like it would demoralize everyone, and I've only ever started in areas where food and game weren't that sparse so far. Is it worth using at all?
stevasaur Sep 28, 2020 @ 5:16pm
The Nutrient Paste Dispenser gives a slight mood debuff (-5, I believe?), but has no chance of food poisoning, doesn't require a pawn to cook meals, and is about twice as efficient at turning nutrition into meals. If you can keep mood up through other means, it can be powerful.

I don't use it much because it can't be used to feed animals or produce food for short caravan journeys, but that's a personal choice.
gimmethegepgun Sep 28, 2020 @ 9:26pm
It's a -4 mood debuff. It's not that significant, and as stated, it requires no chef, never causes food poisoning, and is much more efficient at making food (300% efficiency compared to 180% from Simple or Fine meals, so 67% more food output).
I always use it once available since it requires so much less labor (no cooking, less hauling, less cleaning) and makes food poisoning a thing of the past.

I wanna understand why my Storage unit with a cooler set below 0 Fahrenheit isn't enough to keep food from rotting as all my food just rotted way despite my attempts to freeze it with -8 Degrees Fahrenheit as my coolers setting.

WEll, maybe its to warm in there :P.

Does the cooler even work i.e. has power or no event blocking it? What temp is it in your storage? Hover over the room, you will see on the left (Indoors x°C/F) Is the temp different from outside? It could be that warmth is leaking in at the door. Is an heatwave active? Do you even have a door? (i know stupid question, but what i saw as an call center agent is far more strange then this). Well or, simply your storage is to big for 1 cooler.
