Babies in Rimworld
So I'm sure this has been brought up plenty of times before, colonists being able to have families. Obviously animals already have babies and what not so it wouldnt be entirely impossible to do. This is more of just a discussion of the topic and a debate rather then any suggestions.

A discussion and a debate about...babies. Not if they're good or bad, if they're out of place or sorely missing, just basically...babies. Well, not much debate there. If you want them, there's mods, and if you don't, they're not in vanilla.

most colonies dont last long enough for a human child to be anything but a burden
The majority of animals reach "adulthood" in under a couple of years. Usually only a few days.

The youngest "adult" human character in rimworld is 14. They count as a teenager.

Plus it would kinda screw with the whole character system. How would these new children be assigned those children histories that assign their traits?

Personally speaking, I would love to see children in the game.

That being said, I feel the more prudent course of action would be to keep them out of the game as the ESRB, and everyone else, would undoubtedly frown upon a game where you can shoot children in the face, butcher them, and eat them.

Ahh but what if they don't want a mod.

I mean you can already do that to 14 year olds.

Then they don't want children in the game.

I think it is possible in the engine, but it is not implemented, as they would have to add reproductive organs and transplants...

be careful what you wish for. baby mods are a good way to make this game really weird really fast

See, that's just the weird/wrong way to implement it. Starting off babies as level 0 adults just breaks the game, they could have all 20 skills without the downside of advanced age.

I think, it's tied, mostly, to children being a burden during average colony lifespan.
Dwarf fortress has them, but it does support larger populations. And dwarven childcare is weird. Say, mothers carrying them in battle and using to parry attacks.
