too many insect hives plz halp!1
Kind of let the bug situation get out of control, not sure how to exterminate the hives. Two large gatherings of giant insects are situated in caverns to the north west and south east. The top doesn't have as many, and they all stopped reproducing, but damn is that a lot of bugs. Every time a raid shows up they immediately summon the ire of the swarms, leaving fields of dead in the hundred range. As long as the walls are fortified the creatures return to their holes. Its been hell trying to form logistics around these two caves of certain death. Too scared to begin the burning process. Thought about sneaking a saboteur with invisibility into the middle of them and igniting a molotov. But the siege that would follow this encroachment would more than likely see all my pawns punished in the most perverse of ways... gobbled up by horrors both large and small. Which is ironic because they are a bunch of cannibals that keep a scavenger's pile of all the left overs after each faction's battle with the variety of varmints; Either allied or enemy. There are too many hives to count, but one can be wiped leaving the other as a natural defense. Thinking about demoing the one to the south east, but gawd are there many. Too many. Any ideas?

Maybe a doomsday rocket or 4 would help?

Takes some time and money, or a lucky raider spawn, but if fire is too risky, your next best friend is explosion.

Turtle up and research until are fully equipped and prepared.

Pray an enemy raid can weaken one of them enough for you to sweep in during the aftermath and exterminate weakened hives one by one.

Or pack up and resettle somewhere else.

These are good ideas, and thank you for replying. So far have they have 1 doomsday rocket. And turtling seems to be the only options. I.E.Ds, turrets, and mortars if the bugs can get caught out in the open. Making a kill box that picks them off after being pulled by a raid or two. Keep everything sealed tight until the time, almost like a simulated ancient threat. Want to try and make them hold out as long as they can, but the area can be easily surrounded and an escape may prove impossible. Almost too scared to move on, but they started out as a tribe and its been one hell of a ride. And there are so many damn bugs it slaughters the memory. Cleansed by fire may be the only remedy. Orbital bombardments.

breed a legion of trained boomrats and send them all in to attack

Its funny you should mention it, but they just so happen to have boomrats and boomalopes, both separated by the colony in the middle. The rats and lopes reproduce so much that there is a lack of grazing space. Its difficult to have the supplies necessary for training such a large brigade, but this might prove to be more effective than my previous methods which consisted of zoning an area of attack and then sending all explosive animals en masse. This proved to be a disaster at the mouth of the cave because they would all die there and some would linger until death, exploding with no bugs nearby. Maybe if they can be trained, stationed in another cave, and then at the moment of attack send them at the insect's flanks creating a conflagration and breaking their formations. Still, this may not be enough to stem the endless tide. And by endless, I mean endless. 20+ hives. 100+ bugs. And another stress is the amount of wealth that has been accumulated, ranging into the $170,000 range. Not being equipped enough for raiders who just keep increasing in threat level, may be another disaster on the horizon if the bugs are eventually wiped. The raid that would come after would be apocalyptic.

30 hives, 47 megaspiders, 65 speleopedes, 71 scarabs to the southeast. 11 hives, 14 megaspiders, 21 speleopedes, 19 scarabs to the northwest. colony has 1 doomsday rocket, 4 molotovs, 2 grenades, 3 repurposed mortars, 15 incendiary shells, 6 exposive shells, 1 incendiary launcher, 21 wargs, 10 boomalopes, 20 boomrats, and the colony wealth as of now is $176,151

Perhaps peace may be the only option with the bug faction. Build a nice shell around the colony and grazing fields. Wait it out. Scavenge the remains of failed raids that foolishly think themselves worthy of battle against the great bugs. Wonder what the mechanoids will think when they inevitably arrive with their devil fire, and blood machines. This might be the most exciting tribe playthrough yet. When organic meats mechanic. Muhahaha!
