Is growing cocoa tree on short growing period area impossible?
Playing on a 30/60 days growing area, on my 250th day. In all that time, only once that my cocoa tree actually mature to harvest, every year there's always an event that ruin them. Had no problem growing them on 60/60 growing area, because even with disasters, there's no "out of season" limit. Should I just not bother trying to grow them anymore?

You could try growing the inside with a greenhouse ie a sun lamp and heaters

Can't roof' em, which makes them susceptible to volcanic winter/toxic fallout and, without roof, won't that make the heater pointless?

Yep. Though I've grown them on 30/60 cycles. Try planting them on rich soil only. And you can always harvest them early. Start watching how low the temperature drops at night when you get into early Septober, if it starts getting close to 0°c, harvest them.

I posted here about the same problem not too long ago, and what ended up working for me was getting, "Expanded Roofing", a mod that allows for transparent roofs. Just built walls around my crop, popped on a roof, plugged in a heater and so far I've yet to have anything die. It helps to have geothermal power though, with fewer interruptions and all.

I do, I planted them only on rich soil, but I never harvest them early, I guess I should lol. Thanks for the tip

Cool, I'll look that up for my next game (don't want to use mods on this one)

If you really need it, you can plant several trees inside and unroof just the squares above them. It will be harder to keep the temp up, but you will get a little chocolate. You can then also just surround the trees with other plants, so you don't waste the electricity needed for lamps and heaters.

Cool, I'll try that, thanks

You can harvest them after around 50%, I think. The higher it is, the more you'll get.

You can also put your farmer guys in the "zone" where the cocoa trees are, when you see the notice about the cold snap. Then manually harvest them before the night falls (when the cold snap comes in). That way, you can get the longest growth before having to harvest them.

I've once managed to harvest Cocoa on a 20/60 days growing time map, not 100% grown though. Should definitely be possible on 30/60 if sowing right at the beginning and even with delay, too.
