Ummm, if that's true, that's new. They've always just wanted a log and medicine in the medical recipe.
Don't forget to make sure their medical tend quality is set to the level of medicine you have. Don't think they let you do it with none/herbal any more. Check the bill.
The doc is able to reach the patient, there's no zone restrictions in effect? I don't think you get the [No Path] message for this stuff. Oh, and the wood or medicine itself are also accessible to both? :)
If you have wooden foot option there is no reason for there to be peg leg installation as well since they require same things.
If anything it would be other way around, having peg leg but not wooden foot option.
All this talk above about amputation, missing, crafting are things added through mods.
Edit: Amputation is available in vanilla when your pawn have infected leg/arm but that's not relevant to giving them a peg leg.
This is one operation. I've installed a prosthetic leg on my second doctor, because the infection was too strong and I did NOT have to amputate it first.
The limb DOES NOT need to be missing
but it will as a consequence of the operation become 'missing' ;)
The only prerequisite is 1 log of wood.
