What is a good way to butcher faster?
I typically put my butcher table inside my freezer area, because that's where the animal corpses go. There have been times that my butcher/cook was busy with something and didn't get to butchering for a while so that kind of time really helps that the animal corpses remain frozen so that they don't decay. For example, maybe he's on a big cooking task.

But putting the table inside freezer leads to a work penalty for bad temperatures. Currently, I'm looking at 70% work speed.

Is there any way or work flow design that can help me have a better butchering speed? I see some mods for electric butcher tables, so maybe that's an option eventually.

Thanks in advance!

I use Fluffy's Worktab mod to prioritize butchering above cooking. It doesn't speed up butchering in your case, but it does make sure it gets done in a timely matter.

To me the butchering is more important (as long as you have a meat amount set, so they don't do the job forever) so that the proper cooking jobs can get done in the right order.

Another option is having a separate room within your freezer for your butcher table. With a door, it won't be as cold as the freezer itself, which may a.to the workspeed penalty. You could even put a torch in the room. That may bring it up to a decent temp, it will also provide light. As long as your freezer is setup with plenty of coolers and double walled with an airlock entrance, everything still should work out fine.

I use mods (RimFridge, and others) for freezers; have a Quad freezer next to the butcher table and fill that with corpses. Meat is placed into single freezers behind the cooks for use, or into the main freezer by haulers.

There are also wall fridges (not sure which mod), they insulate like a wall block but are freezers accessed from either side. Handy for limited space issues, having people "load it" on one side and take the meals or ingredients from the other.

I build a butcher room next to the freezer rather than inside it. Sterile tile, and all that. More often than not it's part of the airlock system for the double walled freezer (to limit lost cooling when pawns enter it)

Not thought of putting the butchery in an extended airlock, good idea.

Agreed, that's a good idea.

butcher table right in the kitchen by the freezer doors with the first bit of the freezer designated for corpses. transit time probably is offset by the full work speed, or at least close enough.

I always take the work hit on temperature - it's really never affected me enough that I've cared, but I also make use of:
- A tool cabinet will also increase the efficiency of a butcher table (but I don't think it works with stoves)
- Make sure the butcher task is set to drop on floor (if you keep it in the freezer) for a speed boost

I have from the main freezer 2 separate rooms, 1 for cooking and 1 for butchering. Use sterile floors for both, have them both connect to the same airlock of the freezer to avoid cumbersome foot traffic areas.

But i have 1-2 tables depending upon the size of colony and harvesting of animals that takes place. But i will start with wood and work up to steel table (or steel to start if you have it to spare). And 1-2 tool boxes for it. That should speed up and keep a nice compact area to keep clean while butchering.

The smaller the area the faster and easier 1 prawn can clean while 1-2 butcher. So after say a mad horde of animals event, 2 chop 1 mop. And if it's just a 3x3 room with 2 benches it's small and easy to mop up with keeping your food less poisoned. I use steel everything for sterility.

sorry 3x4

Since buthering and cooking is wrapped in the same task category, how would it become a problem? My setup is two little rooms, one for butcher, one as kitchen which has access to a fridge and a giant freezer nearby.

If there is no meat anymore, the cook simply goes to the butchering table to prepare meat, then moves the meat to the freezer. After that, she immediately starts cooking fine meals. I never had problems with this setup. Or it could be that I am lucky? I had some problems with my kitchen setup, but I resolved it eventually thanks to an info in other thread.

I make a freezer room attached to my butcher room. The only entrance into the freezer is through the butcher room. There is a door and a vent between the two. Close the vent when working, open the vent when resting. Should solve your work rate debuffs.
