Its ok, its a good size (selling sculptures)
Is there a best size to make sculptures to sell, or pound for pound are they about equal?

Material and size both matter.

If you want to make a grand masterpiece in gold you're welcome to do so, but you may find that no one in the universe can afford to buy it. They just won't have the money in either silver or goods to cover a transaction that large.

A small gold masterpiece on the other hand might still take you a while to sell, but eventually you'll encounter a passing exotic goods trader or the like who has either a lot of money or several high-priced valuables that you can now afford.

It's the same sort of problem you run into with things like flake, only with a single item instead of a stack or 10. It's great to be able to make really valuable things, but if no one else can afford to *buy* those things from you then all they're doing is cluttering your inventory and encouraging greedy thoughts in your neighbors.

If your goal is to make money from sculpting, then in general I'd say make them smaller as the material you're using goes up in value. Let colonists practice their art on wood or something equally cheap and renewable. When they get good, give them stone grand sculptures to make and keep everything excellent or above to sell. Recycle the rest and keep practicing.

Save your gold etc. for your best artists, and keep the sculptures small to avoid making things that no one can actually buy in one go.
Thanks for the great reply !!

Im still curious however whether small large or grand is the best size for selling sculptures. Does one size sell for more than the other sizes ?
In general larger sells for more than smaller and better material sells for more than lesser. Mix them together and you can see what you get: a large sculpture made of crap material will sell for much less than a tiny sculpture made of great material.

Weight matters, if you're planning to sell by caravan. Gold is going to get you good money, but you won't be able to transport much of it at once, etc. I find it simpler to do orbital trading for heavy items, and leave the caravans for flake or whatever.

using wood and mastercraft quality grand statue got $1500 for 260 wood netting 5.77 per wood used. large got $755 for 135 wood netting 5.59 per wood. and small got $405 for 70 wood netting 5.78 per wood, so it seems like small is the way to get most per material, at least for wood. i would think it would teir by material, but i havent done it yet

For maximizing profits. "Is there a best size to make sculptures to sell, or pound for pound are they about equal?" is a rather direct question.....

Personally i just have bills for all three sizes and restrict grand to level 15 or higher artists. I'll deconstruct everything under normal quality, install all legendary, and sell the rest when its an option. I also only use stone as a mat, the nicer mats (gold, silver, jade) are better used once you have a master constructor or artist and you are making some insanely impressive rooms.

As for prices, crap small statues sell for 10s of dollars, normal for around a hundred, and high quality is around the 400 mark. Large is about double, while grand is about 3-4 times the price. This is with a decent social skill and stone. Other mats will obviously sale for a different price. (my ranges are to be taken with a grain of salt...)

Try not to make gold statues for merchants. They usually never have enough cash to afford large, good statues. BUT, having a few in stockpile can be used as a trade for a couple bionic limbs.

Is that the value in the info or when a trader comes by?

There is probably an answer to your question, but I think it's irrelevant because of how much RnG is involved in quality. Basically, the more materials you spend, the more of a gamble you are taking on the quality of the finished product. If you only want quality products and don't care about volume, stick to small or large sculptures and deconstruct anything of poor quality.
I personally stick mostly to grand stone sculptures for selling, because it means less micro-management and fewer items I need to store.

that is the market value in the item description. vendor pricing depends on your sellers social skill, so i wouldnt quote that number

plastlel mastercraft is as follows: grand $12,205 at 260 each is 46.94 per plasteel, large is $6265 at 135 each is 46.40 per, and small is $3295 at 70 each is 47.07 per.

so again, small is the best money per material even with plasteel, and medium is worst. grand is only off by a few cents, so it is a lot faster, and with in game money it rounds anyway, so i guess it wouldnt matter anyway unless you had quite a few of them, but there are the numbers, so now you know. hopefully i gave you the info you were looking for.
Thank you Jagroy that is exactly what I was looking for, I appreciate you taking the time to share that info.

Thanks GuessMDK, I should probably do more deconstructing, but Im getting 100 plus for mediocre small statues (sandstone), and as Im steering clear of drugs and my tailoring is only just taking off its been my only real source of income.

I would imagine if you kept your colony free of drug takers you could turn a pretty impressive profit on drugs.
