Low-tech smelter?

Am I only missing something, or humankind really didn't figure out how to make steel without electricity? Well, I actually don't even have to _make_ it, I'd just need to make the metric f**cktons of slag chunks lying around hot enough. Are there any mods out there which add a low-tech smelter?

Only one I know of off the top of my head. Has a lot of other stuff in it though.

I favourited it for future reference, but right now it seems a bit much, so I'll make do with mining compacted steel until I get to the electric smelter. Thanks for the tip though!

u get very little from smelting as it is anyway

How far along past smelting is Deep Drilling? You'll get far more steel in no time doing that vs. smelting or chopping at rocks for it.

I dunno, I play a New Tribe, so research is sloooooooow......... I'm only getting carpet making within this quandrum or the next.

Stack research tables. The effects on research stack. Its the only way to research as a tribe past medieval techs. If you are in desperate need for steel, make a new colony on a ancient asphalt road hex, and disassemble all the lamp posts ad the little concrete chunks. They give decent amounts of steel. Then caravan it back home, and abandon the new colony if you dont want a second one.
