Infrastructure, moving faster, carts, wheeled vehicles
So I was thinking. I'm at a point where I have resources, couple animals, middle age style. Yet the people collect everything with hand, and go to caravans on foot.
Honestly, a small trip is 5 days. I do not have any weekened, or half-footed member.

The point is, why not have collecter carts, that they would pull to the storage?
Why not have wheeled vehicles, pulled by muffalos.

At this point, I think the only such thing is where you can drop pod your members, but I never tried that.

I do not know if this is solvable through workshop at all... or how it is sorrowfully. But I really like the idea.

Seriously. This game needs wheeled pull carts for animals. It needs to be part of the main game an not a mod. Animals need to have more uses then bullet sponges for raids, and food. They can already be used to transport items in caravans, why cant they transfer mass items on your map? Have an animal trainer take a few animals out to the mine to load up their carts and then guide them to the stockpile zone where they the get unloaded. It makes mores sense then you labrador taking mouthfulls of slate chunks and doing it.

The task could require multiple skillchecks before a pawn could even do it (like some drug production items) for balancing. Maybe they need basic construction (~2), handle(~8-10) and haul enabled.

As for the slow travel times, horses NEED to be implemented. Like 3 alphas ago. It doesnt make sense. There are bears, rats, turkeys, boars,WARGS (seriously!?), even genetically enhanced super bugs and a cloned megasloth. But no horses, donkeys or mules. Im no programmer, so i dont know how hard it would be to implement it, but it cant be more then a day or 2 worth of dedicated work. If caravans are a thing, the framework is already there. Just dont have the animals leave the zone.....

Agreed, carts would be invaluable.

Adding cavalry to the game would be awesome, just imagine being able to recreate The Charge of the Light Brigade! :)

I NEED raptor mounts. Is there a way to pay for a feature to be added?

Raptor Banditos would be fun

If i recall this charge failed miserably...

even if carts were added they should not increase speed only weight. afterall the cary weights they have dont slow them down and a cart would be pulled by animals so it wouldnt make them faster

Yeah pretty sure that's the idea.

Regardless, it failed to acheive it's desired objectives.... However, it was beneficial to the opposing army. But we can agree that a charge of the raptor banditos would be doomed to success.

Frankly I want to see the next major update to the game be some sort of major hauling overhaul, as that is by far the weakest aspect of this game.

whats wrong with hauling? it makes perfect sense in fact if u got a dozen or so hauling animals and like 1 hauling person u rarely need to worry bout it

After spending the last 5 days (and approx 30+ game hours) taking a caravan from the middle of the planet to its' south pole (picked 50% world map) to reach the 'secret ship', I whole-heartedly agree that carts/wagons should be a 'thing' in this game. Your construction folks could be responsible for building one, and there could be 2 different sizes; smaller size (carts) for the smaller pack animals, and a larger size (wagons) for the bigger animals. Each cart/wagon would need resources to build, say wood, steel, and maybe a small amount of silver as a minimum, with an option to use better materials to make them last longer.

Say you want to build a basic wagon for your muffalo to pull. A basic wagon would need 400 wood, 200 steel, and 25 silver, and could be used for 15 days before it becomes unusable, and you are allowed to deconstruct it and reclaim approx 25% of the materials used. To build a better wagon you could use a combination of wood, steel, plasteel, gold, or uranium; depending on what materials were used, it could last up to 30 days. Maybe even throw in some sort of leather requirement into the build to simulate the reins and animal yoke/bridal.

If you have a dozen. Not everyone uses animals. Plus carts would just expand on them and make 2 better then 10.
1 muffalo gets a cart or sled which acts like a mobile stockpile for chunks (or crops or blocks) when the pawn goes into the field to work. It could be a toggle in the animal tab for a specific animal after its trained to haul, or better yet, a whole new trick to learn. It would just follow your working pawn as it went to haul, and it would take the chunk instead of having the pawn walk all the way home. After the animal hits its cart carry limit, the pawn would then walk it back to the real stockpile to unload the items.

Items can already be added to an inventory, those items can be accessed individually and independently of each other. All thats needed is a non living item storage(a cart) that gets "dragged" by an animal.

This should have already been added.
