Bedroom Size
I know colonists are super happy with around a 6x5 bedroom, but is there a room size where they won't get a bonus, but maybe also not get a penalty?

Even a 2x3 interior wooden wall room with flagstone (or wood floors) and a single 'normal' quality bed will be marked as dull as long as it's clean.

Double beds I use a 4x4 room for the same result

They will get a cramped neg but only while in the room (edit: only the 2x3 is cramped the 4x4 with the double has no penalty)

11 tiles is the minimum for a neutral mood with regard to cramping. I make 4x3s (interior space) when starting out, simply because making an 11 is odd.

Same, seems to be a pretty perfect size.

6x6 is basically all you need, you can get a buff from it being bigger but you can just add art and plants and such to get a better buff so depending on your area to build with on the map anyways, 6x6 is all the resoucres you need to expend on a room.

not true. u can get a more impressive buff improved by having under 7x7 but at 7x7 u get a +5 mood buff for spacious interior and ofc can still get the impressive room buff only easier

which I covered and gave him the basics for his question "but is there a room size where they won't get a bonus, but maybe also not get a penalty?"

yea and that size is 4x4 i believe any more than 4x4 and less than 7x7 is equal in the way u dont get a spacious interior or a craped interior at that point its about beauty depending on ur bed/floor its not hard to get them in the happy

I never worry about the cramped interior for "Quarters" the -5 neg is instantly replace with a +5 buff the second they wake up and have breakfast in the "common room" (which because of the value of the workbenchs a few decent pool tables and plenty of seating counts as an impresive dining room and rec room giving a +15 total)

but the 'awfull bedroom' neg last with them all day, its worth taking care of early on

just make a good bed and floors and put a sculptor in the room and it wont be an issuewont say what will or wont work best just make a room big enuf to get the room looking ok and ur set but will still recomend 4x4 at least so u dont get that annoying cramped debuff also gives more room to prety it up

i go 6X6 myself. allows me to build 3 wide hallways and keep a fairly uniform base layout when digging into mountains.

I go 4x4 or 5x5.
