Trying to Build a Bar/Pub Area
Hey guys,

I noticed that after the May update pawns will no longer look for a chair to ingest any kind of drug. My issue is that I like to have a bar/pub area set up for my colonists to drink beer at, and am no longer to enjoy this luxury due to the fact that everyone now just drinks in the freezer.

I have looked through the DrugBase and Alcohol XML files and have changed the chair search radius from 0 to various numbers and have changed the search for chair value from "false" to "true", however, these changes did not affect anything. If anyone is passing through this thread and could suggest any other kinds of changes, I would be grateful. Thank you.

I don't know if this helps, but I use the vegetable garden mod, which allows you to make tea and coffee. When the colonists drink them as a rec activity, they seem to sit at a table for quite a longer than it takes to drink a beer or take a drug, so maybe there's something in the code related to the amount of time it takes? They also walk about 12 tiles from the storeroom to the table. I would assume that "take a drug" would not be coded as recreational activity in the sense that X time = X rec points gained. Maybe beer is the same? Now that I think about it, I don't know how long it takes to drink psychite tea...

I suppose you could add the vegetable garden mod and spawn in some coffee and see what happens and compare the code to beer and drugs.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I have this installed and notice the same (I have a coffee shop right next to my bar) and it does seem to work when they are relaxing socially. I will dig deeper into its coding and see if there are similarities.

Another option you could try is the Rimfridge mod. Stick a fridge in your rec room/pub/wherever and set it to hold your beer. At the very least it'll keep them out of your freezer.

What's wrong with the vanilla shelf? I always put a couple shelves in my dining room: one for beer, one for drugs.

I've noticed that if people will find a table to sit at if they're drinking a beer to relax.

However, if they're drinking according to a schedule, then they'll drink on the spot. :(

Dude, a cafe and a bar?!? I want to live in your colony. Even if I do have to drink the beer in the freezer. Got a screenshot?

@di eshor ribly - Yeah I do use that mod, however, the excess beer that does not fit goes into my freezer. For whatever reason pawns seem to prioritize that beer first. I believe that would be fixed if they were to queue looking for a chair.

@ambigore - I have everyone scheduled to drink to their liking. Tynan had this feature turned off in the May update and stated that it is so that pawns who need to take drugs for combat may do so immediately. I do not see why pawns would need to drink beer to fight as opposed to the other drugs, but all of them are set this way.

@ichifish - Haha, yeah I start a colony with no intention of ever finishing them. I like to make them over the top in the long run. Here's a shot of the bar (left) and cafe (right)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, however, I still cannot seem to figure out how to change their behavior.

Don't tell my pawns you have a bar!

You serve warm beer? That's the real war crime.

If it's an ale, which it probably is as the fermenting process happens above the freezing point, it is supposed to be served at room temperature.

If it were a lager you would have a point, but the fermenting process says otherwise. It's an ale. Ales were served at room temperature for centuries.
