How can I stop colonists from eating packaged survival meals?
I'm saving them for travels. There are plenty of simple meals for them but they keep eating the packaged survival meals.

put them far away from tables or just forbid them

Have better food available, such as fine or lavish meals. Setting up the stockpile for them somewhere further away from living areas also works since these meals don't need to be refrigerated.

Easiest way is just to forbid them.

Aye, I always forbid all stacks of survival meals, as soon as the supply of simle meals (or at least, berries) is running and unforbid them only only when needed.

But remember to keep them inside, because the local wildlife won't care about your forbid flags and will happily eat up all survival meals lying around ;)
(which is why you should collect all survival meals ASAP and get them into a stockpile in a room with 4 walls and a door)

There's a mod that let's you set food priorities. It doesn't have the same level of control as drug policy management but it'll let you have some control.

Forbid.
Requires me to manually watch the chefs all day to make sure all meals are forbidden.
Zone.
It's obviously impossible for chefs to place the item in forbidden storage areas because the forbidden storage area is forbidden.
Put them behind a door and manualy lock it.
How are the chefs supposed to place the item behind the locked doors?

It seems that a more accurate answer would have been "You can't."

Forbid. But your pawns prefer any cooked meal over survival meals, so you might want to assign a cook.

First put a zone. Like three or four tiles. Then you just wait for your chef to create the first meal, then forbid it. He will keep piling the stack but it will stay forbidden. You just have to do that once per stack and you're good to go.

as far as forbiding goes u need only forbid once even 1 meal is part of stack. even forbidden they will restock the meals just wont take any till u allow it

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I can't find whichever mod you're talking about. Don't suppose you have a link?

I am having a similar problem. I wanted a 1000 on hand. But for every 4 I made, the person hauling them would take one to eat later. No way around it

Thanks :) Just tried it though and unfortunately the survival meals are treated as simple meals, guess I'll just have to move them elsewhere instead

make a freezer stockpile that only allows the survival meals, critical importance. Build a bed in the room and designate it for prisoners. Pawns will not take food from prison rooms.
