Sleeping sickness?
So I've run into my first encounter with sleeping sickness. 2 of my colonists got it, and one is my best shooter. They have been sick for a season now, and I even bought wake-up and gave it to them but to no luck. Do I simply have to wait it out and hope they develop immunity?

Yeah. This and a couple other chronic conditions such as gut-worms just have a very long duration. Unlike the acute diseases, I'm pretty sure they cannot kill you - there's no severity/immunity race. You just have to wait it out, and it takes a long time.

I'm not sure if treatment makes it faster, or just reduces the symptoms a bit. There's no counter or meter, so it's hard to tell.

Ok thanks!

Although two of my colonists just got the plague, so my sleeping sickness problem may be resolved soon

Hi!

I've recently just cured 2 of my colonists from Sleeping Sickness. Some of the above information is incorrect.

First, the quality of the treatment does indeed speed up the immunity gain. There is indeed a race of immunity/progression of disease. For the most part I was using just generic Herbal Medicine to treat, but a higher quality medicine/better doctor will increase the immunity time.

This is a great disease if you're working on skilling up a low tier Doctor. Although I'd recommend proper treatment from time to time as well.

As stated above no matter what you do the recovery time is pretty long. The nice thing about Sleeping Sickness is that it doesn't completely incapacitate your colonists. While I did keep in them in bed about 80 - 90% of the time I was able to have them do odd jobs from time to time. Make sure you're consistently checking them for Cabin Fever. (This happens if they have been inside for an extensive amount of time.) To cure just convert them to a soldier and manually run them outside of your base for just a few seconds.

It also sounds like you're playing in the rain forest. I did this as well as I like the fact that I can grow crops all year around outdoors. If you're going to be colonizing here make sure you're taking a steady dose of Penoxycyline. This stuff is incredibly easy to make. Keep in mind this does NOT make your characters 100% immune to disease but it does GREATLY reduce the risk of most Rainforest diseases. Take this every 5 days on each colonist.

I've never actually hit 100% sleeping sickness but I'm almost positive it can indeed kill your colonists as it is actually a deadly disease for humans.

If you need something done with your sick colonists don't be afraid to do it. I wouldn't suggest keeping them working for a long period of time but in a general sense you can continue to use your colonists sparingly with the disease.

Good luck!

Sleeping sickness is potentially lethal above 87% severity in this game. When diseases first came out it was the hardest disease to survive and was almost always fatal. I honestly haven't turned it back on since then so I don't know how easy it is to treat now.

It's really not too bad to treat. It just takes a very very long time. Having a hospital bed/monitor and using high quality medicine applied by a good Doctor will speed up thing significantly.

Smart man I am in a jungle! Thanks a lot for the help. Im researching Penoxycyline (like 10 or 20 left) However I cannot build proper medical beds because I used all my metal on defenses, as I've been raided quite a few times. One time I almost had it but this happened. But thanks for taking the time to help me good sir, I'll take your advice.

that is wrong. chronic things like gut worms and muscle parasites dont have an immunity or disease progression. sleeping sickness is basickly a very slow progression plague. biggest problem with sleeping sickness compared to others is its slow progression which can mean if u do even a little to much out of bed u will get to death with like 99% immunity and alot of time and meds wasted

yeah a clean resting area and quality treatment will shorten the time but its a long haul.

older colonists age 80 or so, will get hurt by this type of disease the worse though, best to keep a supply of penox and have them take it, if they do contract it you wont know till it hits about 60% infection, you build up immunity during that time too but its usually lower than infection to start.

but if they take their penox you'll usually start with an immunity of 80%, and will be over th disease in a week.
