That's all folks

Yes

I wish they could shoot over walls, or we could build towers. It doesn't take much for a few clubmen to rush over the barricade and take out a turret.

there are mods ( Combat extended, ? ) adding embrasures, impassables walls allowing to shoot throught

it is nice to build a Vauban inspired fort

Barricades or sandbags are definitely things you want to build around turrets. They’re hardly perfect, but they increase turret survival time against ranged fire by about 130%.

They help a little with melee attackers, since they slow them down, but not much. On the other hand, the death explosion from a larger turret like an auto cannon can seriously wreck a mob of melee attackers like Scythers. It’s an AOE hit on par with a mortar shell.

Combat Extended doesn’t add embrasures. Search the workshop for “embrasure” and you’ll get a half dozen competing embrasure implementations, including embrasures included in mods like RF Concrete.

If the AI understood embrasures I’d totally use them. It doesn’t, though, so you’re seriously reducing the difficulty if you use an embrasure mod.

Gotta agree with this.
Kind of reminds me of a mod I saw for SimCity that eliminates traffic and pollution.

Drop a couple traps in front of the turrets to take out or at least weaken the melee guys

That's a decent idea, though it's limited by the requirement that traps must be have at least 1 space between them. You really need at least 2 rows, alternating, with the hope the melee guys will charge straight in and not diagonally.

I'll usually do turrets side by side with a wall between and a row barricades along the front. A trap works fine in front of each gun. Another alternative spaced row of traps would be doable, but I usually don't bother. Ever since I accidentally made plasteel turrets and found out how sturdy theyy are, I don't use steel anymore unless I can't get plasteel or uranium at a push.

that is wrong. it does add embrasures

There's landscape options too. Rivers can slow pawns, so why not set up a line of autocannons by a river, while shaping the ingress even more by a few walls which will also protect the turrets to a degree.

Animals don't understand them, so it allows you to cheese manhunter packs. Human raiders do understand embrasures though, ranged enemies will shoot back and often run up to the embrasure to cancel the cover bonus your colonists get, and melee enemies will try to go around or attack them if they can't find a path. This doesn't make them remotely "balanced" though, as melee attacking an embrasure to try to fight the people on the other side shooting you at point blank range is generally entirely futile. Embrasures against an all ranged raid effectively provide no real benefit though over standard cover, unless you are using an embrasure mod that has an OP amount of cover.

Edit: FFS. Didn't notice the necro. -_-
