Melee Weapons in Vanilla
What are the best melee weapons I can craft in vanilla? What are the best melee weapons I can find? Is melee even worth it?

Plasteel longsword and uranium maces. Yes, you can easily kill highly armored targets with melee.

there is no definitive best melee weapon in vanilla. Sword and spear has highest dps and ap of all melee weapons (dlc not included), but they are not very good against smaller and fast target like rat and beaver due to their long cd per hit. If you want standardize for all your melee dps give them all a sword but it's not an end all be all weapon.

Depends on your strategy. If you are out gunned then ambush the enemies in melee is the best option

I just give ranged weapons to all my colonist and sick the panthers and rhinos on them. Why bother with melee and take damage when I can have predators do it?

This is the very good general advice that I follow myself. Longswords against organic things and maces against metal things.

Melee is, in fact, very effective.

It can get more complicated, and someone may break out the calculator, but if you want to keep it simple, it's longswords and maces.

Got it, but why bother when the animals can melee for you and you stay safely in the rear with ranged weapons. It seems unnecessary to risk pawns for what animals often do better.

Because unless you're running mods tailored around enhancing your animal army a single well armed-and-armored bionically enhanced melee soldier can take down entire packs of manhunting thrumbo with more or less minor injuries?

That same melee guy who can cross half the map in seconds and beat all your snipers to death before their firing cooldown ticks off?

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would use them either.

*I love my melee specialists, I really do.

because you cant control your animals and they may get wipe out during consecutive raids forcing you to emerge into melee with your own pawns unprepared?
