Late game colony collapse
The game seems to get much harder as time goes on. I can understand a linear increase in difficulty but there seems to be a curve.
I've entered late stage with this colony and now the raids are 3 times the size, 30% of the population has one plaque or another, a volcanic winter has set in and lasted two seasons now followed by a blight.
I've watched the graph of the colony decline in holdings 45% from its peek.

You can go to Options while playing your save game and change the AI. Your game sounds like it might be on Cassandra Classic, who has that increasing difficulty curve that you are describing. You can try her on an easier setting or try Phoebe or Randy.

Yes, this is Cassandrea Classic, does her difficultly ever level out or it just gets harder now until it kills you?

I think it also has a lot to do with how many colonists you have, so if you keep capturing more and more colonists the raids and whatnot will be bigger and bigger. Like others have said, if you wish to focus on building large populous colony, it's best to go with Phoebe.

I watched a video where a player created a massive kill box and all raiders funneled through it as his colonists and turrets mowed the hundreds of raiders down.

It looked interesting, so it would be an ideal setup to have if you're going to expect some company late in the game, lol.

I thought of changing difficultly levels or story tellers, but I think I am not going to, as it might kill the fun. I've got a play style that I finish the game how I started it, or if I make changes it can only be to make the game harder.
Any mods added are okay to increase complexity or difficulty, but once I've added a mod I've got to play that mod until the game is over, there's no going back until I've won or lost that game.
Often I never go back, even if a mod makes a game very much harder, and it made me lose the last game I played.
