Tynan.. My bionic body parts :(
Found out, today, you can't remove bionic parts after a pawn dies. I now have a sad. Did a Google search and found this has been a thing for a while now. Why have you done this Tynan? Why does the dead need bionics?!

But in all seriousness, any mods that allow this? I'm assuming it's for balance reasons but I am not good enough to get to a point where abusing it would be worth it.

the neural links degrade from the acids released once their cells start to decay after death
its really fragile precise technology

...and no i dont think there is a mod to change this

There is a mod on the ludeon forums for this. Don't remember if it was a released or in progress mod though.

This was done for only balance reasons. I use the same reasoning as Ashardalon does for my own "RPG"ness.

Lesson learned for sure. Also, nice reasoning Ashardlon!

its the reason you check the half dead raiders
they might have some parts that make it worth saving them for disasembly even if you disagree with taking organs (i usually only have one spare organ of each you can survive with instead of stripping everything out of every raider)

In the colony that lost the bionic part (leg in this case) we harvested two raiders for organs just incase someone needed them but released the others. I wasn't aware they could come with bionic parts though. I've never survived very longer after the 2 year mark.

In this situation I had just put a bionic leg on one of my melee pawns who lost his in an earlier skirmish only to have him die slowly to Malaria. Nice little heads up in the event that I do make it that far in the future.

Cheers.

just in case that happens again, you can always remove the leg if you think he wont survive
and if a miracle happens and he does live just stick it back on again
only if his immunity is something like 15 behind, and it is a risk, but legs tend to be rare
so better safe then sorry

That's the plan from now on. His immunity was maybe 1% behind infection and I was hopeful but should have removed the leg then and would have in hindsight.

But this is what Rimworld is all about no? Live, die, learn, start over!

Not only with bionics, but I feel like you should be able to remove undamaged organs from someone who died as well. I'm annoyed that most of the organs you would harvest from a live bandit pretty much kills them instantly and you get nothing else, yet in reality you would be able to harvest everything. People die in a car accident, their organs can still be used, them dying prior to removal doesn't make them instantly unusable. Just add a time limit to how long until they do become unusable, perhaps only until the corpse is rotting and then no more organ/part removal. Although, in terms of the bionics themselves, I can see it being a mental debuff thing, like making a person wear a dead persons clothes, likewise using a dead person's bionic anything (especially an eye) would just be... eww, for lack of a better word. Recycling them should still be allowed though.

thats not how organs work
and if you take the spares first instead of beginning with the heart you can get more then one

As Ash said, take lungs and kidneys before heart or liver and you're good. Two raiders will give you a colonist worth of organs assuming your surgeon doesn't fail.

Careful with the mood debuff though.

https://organdonor.gov/about/process/deceased-donation.html And yes, I'm aware of how it works in-game. But what happens if I need both a heart and a liver? I can't get both from the same source, and not only is that not realistic, but it's a bother to have to kill two people when one person's life should have been enough to save two.

I know that if prisoners are released they can come back in another raid so if you remove an arm, a leg etc then release them, is there a chance they will come back with bionics?

I've always heard people doing this so they come back with peg legs but I haven't seen it myself. That being said I am inclined to believe that they have to be spawned with them in late game to show up like that. But I'm a noob still, so take that with a grain a salt. It's just what I've read so far.
