What is the main purpose of this weapon?

I know its AOE is huge and I've always thought it was for defoliator (poison) ships. I had one recently, but only scythers, I tried it. Other than waking the scythers and probably injuring them a bit, these scythers came out of it alive & fighting! I've assumed it was a one-hit wonder and ends all fighting with mechs. But obviously not.

Hence, the question -- what's the wisdom (if any) of its main use?

well it burns human flesh better than scyther metal bodies, so use it for large groups of raids.

of course, if you play on lower levels or you haven't gotten to the point of large groups of raids and you still handle them in traditional ways, then it will seem like, what else do I do with this targeter?

@navorskatie - I'm assuming you're not just assuming here right? Lol.

I say this because RWwiki has this for its Usage: "It is extremely useful against crashed ship parts, as the beam can vaporize the ship part and down its surrounding mechanoids with a single use."
