How many colonists do you have? Any one of them has a social skill (even if its low)? What year are you in? Do you have anything to trade? If textile, how much?

If you have tried adding mods and then disabled them you can check the 'AppData' directory. Some mods leave remnants there after a delete.

I went to vanilla with the release of 1.1 and found Hugslib and some others to remain in this directory even after an unsubscribe, verify and even a reinstall. Maybe you have a mod remnant there that is causing the strange behavior.

C:\Users\%your user name%\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios

Vanilla will have a 'Config', 'Saves' and 'Scenarios' folder and two player logs in there. If you see anything else there it is from a mod and you can delete it if going vanilla.
The 'Config' folder may have a 'ModsConfig' folder in there that can be deleted if going vanilla.

Vanilla is best at the moment until the mods settle down with the recent 1.1 update.

Ah, but did you ever have any? Are you sure you removed them completely?

Also, if you don't care about existing save games, you can just delete that entire 'Ludeon Studios' folder in the 'AppData' directory.

That folder will be repopulated with vanilla files the next time you start RimWorld.
