But, I wouldn't use the stone for sculptures to sell. You might need that stone for base construction later. I know I always run out of stone bricks as I expand and wish I hadn't used it up.
Wooden sculptures...now that's the thing right there. Nice, renewable wood.
As was said above, but with more emphasis from myself: Never use stone for making sculptures for sale. Always use wood. If you have no trees and very abundant stone, you could use a little bit of it for sculptures if your need for Silver is great. But, you should be then focused on planting some trees if at all possible even if making sculptures is all you will ever use them for.
Wooden Sculptures are a very accessible cash-cow in Rimworld. Once you get a decent Artist and have plenty of pawns to do many other jobs, setting that Artist to crafting wooden sculptures, or at least keeping a ready inventory of them, is a very smart move.
I don't know if the Sculpting Bench's inventory counter has been adjusted to not count installed sculptures. Long ago, it was stated that this would "never" be changed... It's been one of the lat bits of "annoying things" in Rimworld, but I guess Tynan had some reason for refusing to change it. Anyway, the point is that if you want to set up a stock inventory limit for sculptures it used to be that you had to count the installed ones. That could have changed with 1.1 or with "Royalty." (Anyone have any information on that?)
"does count installed art now" - It's always counted the installed art as being part of the existing "inventory." That's sort of the problem as it makes it a micro-managing issue in keeping enough art to sell when you may decide to install one of them a situation of ever-depleting available stockpiles of uninstalled, ready-to-sell, art.
Make five art.
Install one because you need a nice piece of art.
Have only four art ready to sell.
The bench counter thinks you already have five "in inventory" and doesn't que up a job to replace the one that just got installed.
It "makes sense" in a kind of way, but doesn't make sense for the job que "IMO." :)
I just take a look at the bench's guess and then my exclusive area for stored read-to-sell art and then make five more no matter how many are lying there. :D
i have every single bit of research done now, even about prob 100,000+ research points worth of extra reserach from mod items that add to the blueprints. I had 4 high tech benches going with 4 guys doing that non stop.
now i took down 3 of them so i have one just in case i ever need it.
but now those 3 guys are doing art non stop lol.
im still at about 130,000 total wealth, but have noticed since all the tech done raids are getting larger slowlyl still. like now i get raided by sappers from 3 directions at this value with about maybe 20-30 guys in total.
i sell the art off as fast as i can to buy things like plasteel and steel that have run out on my map for making advanced components.
I am at the stage now where I am ready to start upping my wealth, but i need to be able to handle the raids, and this is where i always get my seed F'ed up is during this transition.
By upping wealth i mean, in terms of larger fancier base, and bionics.
I saw the other end of this point, which was I wanted to know how many pieces I have. If I wanted to sell them, I could -- especially as the slider could be used to filter the quality I wanted. If it didn't count them, I'd have to click on each piece to know (as my memory is hopeless) what was its value.
That's entirely understood - My memory sucks too. When I'm returning to a playthrough, one of the things I might do is doubleclick on certain installed items just to refresh that memory. Sculptures are one of those choices. Plant pots is another... (Growers will re-seed them and too many plant pots and too few Growers means they might be running around taking care of house-plants rather than food crops. :))
I get it, though - It's very useful to have a ready count of sculptures.
I just think they shouldn't be counted by the Workbench as "Inventory." It's probably some internally complex game thing that has tipped Tynan's hand, there - Blocks are separately counted vs Wall segments perhaps because they're a component of wall construction. IF crafted Sculptures are completely finished, like Workbenches, then they're not a "component" needed for "installing a Sculpture" and likely can't be counted like that the way they're set up, right now. Just a guess.
