Method for acquiring human leather?
I just started a crash landing run with some small changes. My first quest is to get 145 human leather in 28 days. The last couple runs I've tried being very ethical and humane, not even using animal products. I think it could be nice to get out of my comfort zone and skin some people.

How would I best go about this? Raid a nearby village?

Are there any debuffs for skinning humans without cannibalistic trait?

Thanks

You can probably just wait for raiders to attack you and be sure to kill all of them. Raiding villages is actually pretty difficult early on and can lead to catastrophic losses.

There is a mood debuff for the butcher as well as a mood debuff for all colonists that you butchered humanlike. Cannibals do not get this debuff.

Recycling pawns, mass murder, etc.

Wait for a raid, kill everything, skin them. Simple. And yes, you'll get I think a -6 debuff although I don't remember if it stacks or not.

Raiding another village might be a bit hard depending on how far along in the game you are. If you've got an outpost close by via a quest/mission they're generally generated based on what the game thinks you can handle. A regular village,,,,, good luck.

Probably easier to let the human leather come to you, rather than raid a nearby village.

Assuming this didn't change in the 1.1 update, there are some mood debuffs for skinning humans for anyone who's not either a cannibal, psychopath or has the bloodlust trait.

This goes both for the one doing the butchering, as everyone else in the colony.

The debuff for doing the butchering stacks per butchered human. Upto 4 corpses I think. So you always want someone with one of those traits doing the butchering.

The debuff for others in the colony is -6 for about a week, but it doesn't stack. In other words, whether you butcher one human or 87, it's still just -6 debuff.

So if you have someone with one of those three traits, it's quite manageable. If not, the one doing the butchering is gonna have a rough time if you butcher more than one.

Actually cannibalistic pawns are not the only ones to not gain a mood debuff for butchering!

Bloodlust and psychopath pawns can do it as well! Pawns with bloodlust trait can also equip human leather clothing for a mood buff, like the cannibal trait! Pawns with bloodlust/psychopath are also immune to debuffs from seeing dead bodies as well.

Do keep in mind that bloodlust trait pawns will absolutely start ♥♥♥♥ via social fights way more often, go on murderous mental breaks far more often and whatnot.

Psychopaths just don't care.

Despite bloodlust pawns not getting a mood debuff for that, I would advise against using them as the butcher if they have a rival in the colony, of if any other pawn could start a social fight with him in the near future, because the butcher also gets a social debuff and other pawns will hate the butcher a little more. If the amount is enough to make them hate the bloodlust pawn, and a sudden mood drop make any of them start a social fight, it will end pretty badly.

Psychopath trait nullifies the mood hit to butchering humans. Otherwise yer gonna take the hit. I thought it weird too until I remembered a hunting trip I took a few years back. A friend in the party had no problem blasting a deer but balked at cleaning it. To the point of "I gotta get out of here".

I have the opposite problem. Got over 150 corpses from accepting a quest where human raiders hit every 24 hours. All of my stockpiles are overwhelmed at the moment, probably need to redesign part of my base or something -_-. Cant skin em right now cause nowhere to put the stuff

3 words: Human Leather Dusters.

Bills:
Butcher Table
- Butcher Creature, human corpses, strangers only, drop on floor, Do Forever.
(Edit: assign to a Cannibal/Psycho pawn, to prevent regular pawns from getting the stacking mood debuff. It may be easier to have multiple copies of this bill if there's more than one suitable raider-Butcher.)
- Make Kibble, using Human Meat & Corn (or whatever vegetable you have in abundance), drop on floor, Do Forever.

Tailoring Bench
- Make Duster, using Human Leather, drop on floor, Do Forever. (Put this at the bottom of the list.)

Smelter / Campfire
- Smelt Attire, tainted (non-clean) clothing only, drop on floor, Do Forever.
- Burn/Destroy Attire, dis-allow Clean attire (so Tainted clothing only), disallow smeltables, Do Forever.

1 word: Fire.

- Make one stockpile for corpses.

- Equip 1 person with molotov cocktails.

- Throw molotovs on corpse pile

- <Result>

Because butchering and processing 150 extra corpses with stockpiles already full is madness and will take a literal in game year to fully utilize.

What you said is perfectly reasonable lol. Just less so when there's already enough strain as is. My friend made that mistake and ended up mental breaking all his colonists trying to process a midgame tribal raid. It was a madhouse.
