Can you "force" a relationship to save space?
As in pairing two colonists in a double bed hoping they will like eachother. To halve the amount of rooms needed and get some more mood buffs.

Get EBDPreparecarefully it's that and allows you to have a customized start, i use it as well to have 2 married couples purely for the mood bonus
(allows you to create your own citizen / force relationships / start with different or more items etc)

Menu-options- dev mode : There will be a menu top of screen. Find the one where you can spawn things, remove / destroy things. You will recognize it when you open.
There should be an option for "Add relationship" (Im only use remove relationship, but surely there must be an option to add it)

If you looking for less cheaty way.... No. You can try to assign them to work next to each other, etc but forcing them .... no.

You can assign any two colonist to the same bed whenever you want. If they are good friends they wont even mind. The penalty for sharing a bed is something like -5 if they have 0 relation with each other, and -0 if they are at 100. I do this to save space all the time.

If you want them to become lovers for those various buffs, there are ways to make it happen, but it can take time depending on their attraction. The easiest way is to just restrict them both to the same small area, like the rec room and dining area, maybe assign them both to research next to each other, and just leave them there for a while. The relationship system is chance based, so it will eventually happen, you can pair up any two colonists you want, you just need some patience.

Keep an eye on the colonist's relationship meters.
No good forcing two of them together, if their opinion of each other just tanks to oblivion.

any mods out there to force them when they are in a relationship to stay in the same bed. Seems anytime one of them has a mental break or is treated for injuries they find a empty bed instead of going back to their fiance

That shouldn't be happening, their bed should be saved until they are assigned a new bed, it sounds like you are running into some sort of issue/bug. Are you using any mods? Especially any that add or change beds?

Only way I know is to add a relationship using devtools, but if you don't want to cheat then I think if you had 2 people in the same area following each other around a lot they would probably get into a relationship eventually. Hope I helped!

Only time I've seem people lose their bed assignments are when one of these conditions apply:
* The bed itself gets deconstructed or packed away (obviously!)
* The person is off-map, AND colony recruits additional member.
* The person is off map, and you manually kick another person out of their bed assignment.

For the latter two cases, the act of having a colonist that does not have a bed assignment, and who then seeks a bed to autoassign to themselves, seems to reset *all* the vacant bed reservations for people that are off-map. Even for beds that are not claimed by the wandering bedless person.

That won't be a problem for me, Im the dumbass from the thread about starting on an island being a mistake, Im sort of stuck here now so my colonists won't be leaving the map.
I gotta get microelectronics to start trading with ships.
