Then they will only put on "un-tattered" stuff. They may or may not now be wearing enough clothes for the weather or to avoid unhappy nudity. Tattered clothing is one of those "little" debuffs I don't worry about too much but then again I'm not playing at super high difficulties where dropping dead is a bigger issue than being sad your shirt has a hole in it ;)
ex. when I first set my colony dress code to no tattered Sammy was asleep, and by the time she woke up her only choice of clothing left her looking like a demented Christmas pixie, but that's life I guess.
Colonists will then automatically change out an article of clothing that wears out to 50% and becomes tattered.
