Edit: OOPS - Sorry, just now saw you were speaking to 1.0. The below is for 18, just in case someone was wondering. There's no update note for this specific topic, so I would assume you can get them from traders unless there's a dissembly mechanic that will produce them.
The bench doesn't require Advanced Components to make. You do need a Component to build it, though. But, you can get these from a wide variety of sources, making it easy to get at least the one you need for the bench.

Thanks mate! Do you know if settlements might have them aswell, as in, I can just send a caravan over with a huge pile of money or do I have to sit around and wait for a bulk trader?
@LoganMalone
Yea, about 5:47, but you'll have to bring the cake. No really, why are you even answering a post in English in a laguage that is _not_ English?
It's a Russian troll/bot. Translated, it reads:
"Walking in the park one day In the merry spring month of May I was taken by surprise A pair of fraudulent eyes I was frightened, but I did not run away"
Ah, ok. Last I checked (this morning), it required an adv. component to make, but the save has been around for about a week or so. Could it be a residual bug? If so, is the save borked and all I can do is start over or can it be salvaged?
In the version history, it states that the 1.0 requirement is an Advanced Component for that bench. It could be a legit way to delay end-game or make it a bit more difficult.
Yup, seems like it. Back to my previous question then. How does one aquire the 2 advanced components required o make the fabrication bench?
I don't know, in 1.0 I only went to other settlements to burn them to the ground. It maybe worth a try to check if you have settlements close by.
I got the advanced components from a trader, I was kinda lucky because I didn't have to wait long for the trader to show up when I wanted to build the fabrication bench.
Also like [ҒS] 4and4squared said, the Mechanoid ships also drop 1 if you destroy it.
It costs 200 steel and 14 components to build.
As recommended above, read the Wiki...

Note: in order to build the spaceship you will require a very large number of advanced components as well as the other ingredients. I recall using two Component assembly benches to get the work done!
Advanced component crafting will be long and hard work, but that is something you can easily achieve through sheer pawn labour. What remains to be more difficult is acquiring the bloody AI Persona Core. If you manage to lose one, it may take a very long time before an opportunity appears to gain another! So when you do get this rare item, guard it with your life ;)
1: Poison/Psychic Ship is guarenteed to drop 1 Adv. Component, 4 Components, and 45(?) Plasteel.
2: Traders, natch.
3: The Ancient Danger (they're on the list of potential finds inside the Danger).
4: World Map Quests (I think I saw 17 Advanced Components at one point, while Tynan was wildly adjusting the Caravan rewards up and down on the Unstable. Such a quest reward is probably impossible at the moment, now that it's been tweaked back down)
But you shouldn't rely on these as your only sources otherwise it will take forever to acquire the amounts you will need.
The best and most reliable source will be the ones you craft yourself, but that means you will have to have already developed a good regular component production chain first. So that's what you should work towards and if any bonuses like those above come your way then good.
I acquired 4 by going to the near 'high tech' faction and they had a handful in stock.
Had no luck at all breaking up ship chunks (one supposed source) nor from any traders.
Now the conundrum: my brand spanking new fabrication bench does not allow me to make a bill for advanced components (as advertised). Drat.
