Does double walls help the freezer...
stay cold? Any tricks on keeping the freezer cold?

Double walls do help, but no more after that. Otherwise your best bet would be have it placed in a mountain which is naturally a bit cooler.

Yes. Massively. Also, use airlocks with automatic doors to get in and out. 3 spaces between doors ideally, if you can.. 2 works also.

As well as double walls, consider keeping entrances/exits to as few as possible, preferably one.

And on your entrance(s) adding in an airlock. So you would have a door, a bit of a hallway- just a tile or two, and then another door that actually goes into the freezer area. This will prevent hot air from rushing in as easily. You can probably get away with the doors of the airlock being adjacent but I like them separated partially for aesthetic reasons.

Yep, 3 is my preference as well!

Hm.. I typically just have a small 5x5 room as both my airlock and butchery. Separates the butcher table from the kitchen, positions the butcher table near where the caracasses are likely to be (in the freezer) and insulates the freezer in one go.

Is there a reason to have an airlock all on its own besides aesthetics?

Not really.

I actually put my kitchen inside another room within the freezer. I set that door to stay open. Stays ever so slightly warmer than the freezer, but does count as a different area for cleanliness purposes. I have my butcher table in the back of the freezer itself.

My designs grow organically as needed and are rarely pre-planned with being pretty or symmetrical in mind.
There you can see a dual purpose for an airlock^ It insulates from the outside but also means the butcher table is not in the freezer. That room ran fine with 2 coolers till a heatwave pushed it just over 0c.. Needed a third one for that but there's another cooler spot available for when/if I expand it.

Interesting. Okay, just wanted to see if I'd missed something. I'll take any advantage I can get over the storytellers.

Are those...people in your freezer? On second thought, this is Rimworld, never mind.

What's important is to separate the human corpse storage from the rest of your freezer, unless you're running a colony of psychopaths. Keeps them fresh and ready for reuse as hats or kibble (if not direct dogfeed, etc...) without making everyone going through your regular freezer completely depressed.

It also helps if the surrounding area is lower in temperature (0-10° works),
just wall and roof everything in your base
then unroof the compartments where the hot air of the cooler goes
and close it off with a locked door (so your pawns won't walk into a hot zone).

Temperature management becomes much easier when the area is fully under your control.
Better yet, although costly (energy wise), you can create hot air canals
to repel raiders with (80°C and upwards is nothing to scoff at).

Yes, originally I did it as a place to store some bodies that I didn't have time to deal with. Then I opened it up to my meat eating animals only. I'm not sure why I have all 3 doors forbidden there right now, I think I was trying to figure out a pathing solution as sometimes a husky or two would still end up starving even with access to that room.. I think the distance they have to walk to go around and enter on the right side of the room is too far sometimes and they just won't do it.. I need to re-design that whole "corpse storage" bit and yes, what Tarshaid said^
You don't want your colonists seeing them every day, so wall them off.

You can have your predators (wargs or other) haul the non-colonist human corpses
and put them in a -5°C freezer next to their sleeping spot.
If you build it in such a manner, no pawn will ever see those corpses.

Btw, they don't like eating from fridges (mod), but they will eat from a cupboard.

Yeh.. I think I might just make a new freezer to the left in the barn.
But first.. I need to make a decision on something else. Randy has been hitting me pretty hard with raids and toxic fallout and volcanic winter and mechs.. I survived it all with minimal loss, so he went quiet for a while. Then all of a sudden, he's offering me all manner of treasure out in the world. AI persona core, and another one is: "kill 7 raiders and get 2 healer mech serum".. all 4 of these came one after the other.. And I smell a rat. It's too easy. 7 raiders are no threat to me yet I can get 2 healer serums for it?.. Naaaah.. He wants me to send out a squad and then hit my base while I'm weakened.
Still.. I gotta get those serums.

EDIT

Sure enough.. I knew it.

But it's cool.. We're gonna deal with it.. Heheheeeeeeee.. We're gonna DEAL WITH IT!
