Really though, it's all random. There's a sort of cooldown on it but still doesn't always trigger at the same time etc.

Then I'll add another question to this: isn't the strength of the deep drilling infestation quite reduced? I've had a regular infestation with quite a number of bugs against me, then a deep drilling one several seasons later, and the actual number of bugs spawned was a complete joke compared to what I had already experienced. Plus they don't spawn exceedingly fast so the driller had all the time joining his enrolled mates rather than get ambushed by the bugs (which is good, don't want a sudden "you miner has been mauled to death" out of the blue).
Maybe I was just lucky but I'd like to know.

Its always 1-2 spiders and 1 scarab, so nothing too threatening

It's just plain ol RNG
If you want to deep drill, this is a consequence you have to live with ;)

It has a mtb of 20 days. Meaning it's only supposed to happen once every 20 days on average. It's RNG though, you will have streaks.

I've had two drills set up and have only had 2 infestations. I don't know how long they have been set up but I can say many many seasons. The first infestation was larger the second on was only maybe 4 bugs total.
