How long can Toxic Fallout's last for (maximum time)? What is the average length of it lasting?
Title.

I have never found this particular value to ever be accurate, it might be multiplied by threat scaling or some other hidden value. It has definitely lasted much longer than that in previous versions. I usually don't enable it these days unless I am running a permanent toxic fallout scenario. As a temporary event I don't find it particularly interesting, though the main reason I disabled it in the past was because it used to just be free food but that's been fixed I heard.

It varies, but I've found it rarely lasts longer than a season which means as part of your preparation for such an event, you should always have enough food to last at least a season.
The event is inevitable, so it's worth preparing for it from the start.
1. Roof over all exterior pathways.

2. Set up a restriction zone to include all areas of activity including those pathways.

3. Stock up on food and meals.
Do all of that and the event is easy ;)

If you struggle. I advice building a sunlamp (which needs around 3 solarpanel). Then roof the area.

I haven't heard of a maximum. I've had it last 57 days, though that was once. Most boring playthrough I've ever had, which is probably why I remember it.

Currently, the fallout has lasted approximately 10 days. I have enough for for maybe 10 days more, however, it is the beginning of Spring and it is approaching growing season time. There are no animals on the map (save for my pawns and the Muffalo and Lynx which I have as pets). I wouldn't have enough food to last long enough to get my first harvest of the year. I might starve; my hope is the toxic fallout will finish soon and animals will start migrating into the area so I can hunt them.

Slaughter your pets for food.

2 solar panels and a battery is good enough. Sunlamp needs 2900W; 2 Solar panels provide 3400W. The battery isn't absolutely neccesary; it's main purpose is to get maximum grow time since the first and last hour of each day the sun isn't high enough in the sky for the solar panels to be at max power.

Not sure exactly but I'm getting it in the neck myself.. So here you see bottom right, I've been going through volcanic winter and it's lasted a long time. I've had to build sunlamps around my farms and the juice they need is astronomical..

I decide to take on that army of 25~ raiders there and save Will's mom. I lose 2 steel mini turrets, 3 huskies (one bonded) and a few cuts and bruises. I guess Randy was expecting me to lose a lot more since I don't have any real defences so he punished me.
As the fight was going on, volcanic winter passed, and as I won the fight, Randy gave me Toxic fallout straight away.. Before I'd even had time to get the bodies off the lawn..

So, a bit earlier today, after I posted this thread, the toxic fallout finally ended (and just when the growing season was starting to begin!). But, Phoebe Chillax decided immediately aftwards (a few days after the toxic fallout had subsided), to gift me with a Cold Snap (right in the beginning of the growing season no less!). So, all the crops which had JUST been planted by my grower (which was approximately 1/3 of the fields I had set aside for various crops), were instantly destroyed. SOO, my start for the year might be a bit more clutch, as I've lost those crucial extra days before the season truly begins to egg out a few more days and get an early harvest. Hopefully my grower will be able to replant the entire field in a short amount of time, I'll need as many harvests as I can in the ~20 or so days I get to grow in the Tundra.

start looking into power generation options and even if you can't put all your crops in a green house, at least do some vital vegetables so that you can get simple meals to outlast any bad growing seasons or weather events.

humanity finds ways to survive and thrive in harsh environments. for rimworld, that would be using greenhouses to get a food supply, no matter what the outside temps and weather events are happening.

Yeah, I had started as a Tribal start. However, I do have the mod which allows tech progression (Neolithic to Medieval, Medieval to Industrial, etc.). In any case, I have tasked my miner to mine out a semi-large portion of the mountain our base is in, and after it's been mined out I will build a lot of Hydroponics basins. I will still have my fields growing the vast majority of my crops, but at least when I get hydroponics, I should be capable of keeping my colonists fed long enough to pass whatever event the storyteller throws at me. Oh, and I have downloaded some of the Vegetable Garden mods, which I am absolutely loving. I recommend it if you want even more crops to grow as well as new foods and clothing, among other things.

The 'fix' of toxic fallout being free food is that all animald that has toxic buildup will automatically became rotten when dead, doesn't matter how much toxic buildup they have.

(my personally hated events are solar eclipse and solar flares along with crops blight... even the new one is just a meaningless annoyance... and how the fk did a planet would develope or keep any intelligent lifeforms with so many solar flares hitting its surface... it happens like 2-3 times a year at least and I'm playing Phoebe, not Cassandra... and eclipse is practically a weekly event with random interwalls... if a planet has uncalculable solar eclipse interwalls, then something's not right with that planet and it's following moon(s)... not to mention a normal solar eclipse only should take a few hours, not days)

I was quite unprepared for Toxic Fallout. I was barely feeding my colony when it started. But I did survive by sneaking out and grabbing food and wood and turning my boar into meat . I had a prisoner at the time and I was considering whether I needed another mouth to feed when he went beserk, breaking down doors and attacking my colonists. I managed to knock him out and wall him in with my three dogs. They ate him as soon as he died, leaving nothing behind, not even his clothes. I didn't have to feed the dogs for days. Fallout lasted 8 days. Extremely interesting but I don't think I'd like to do that again.
